I don't think that's really the answer --- e.g. Matlab has all of those (and the open source things are YMMV). The reason I've seen people prefer Mathematica is because its symbolic computation and visualization capabilities

In physics, arXiv is where it's at --- conference proceedings are usually not very relevant, and people usually put also them on arxiv.

Other people have power to not hire you, fire you, not offer you opportunities to advance, not invite you to the "old boys club" to network etc. Add to that your caveat, and good luck with that.

Before suggesting that such results are wrong, you'd need to read some of the papers and find something specific to criticize. Otherwise, that's just empty ideologically colored speculation.

I've also used it for the past months (latest version at MELPA), and haven't had any problems. Much preferable to the jupyter browser interface, no browser keybindings etc. web page stuff getting in the way.
