With modular RAM, someone can buy old boards and RAM and use it for high-RAM applications down the line.

The difference in performance between DRAM and flash memory is far greater than SRAM and DRAM. The total RAM of a system is a hard limit on the type of programs you can practically run because swapping is slow.

My complaints are the maximum RAM of the system and the modularity of the RAM. With an increased number of channels, you could have a greater amount of RAM at a lower frequency but at the same bandwidth. So you would at least be able to run

This is a very good point! I remember reading about AlphaGo and how they got better results training against itself vs training against historical human-played games. So perhaps the solution is to train the AI against another AI somehow...

One example in my field of engineering is multi-dimensional analysis, where you can design a system (like a machined part or assembly) parametricially and then use an evolutionary model to optimize the design of that part. But my bigger poi

Perhaps it is not possible to simulate higher-level intelligence using a stochastic model for predicting text. I am not an AI researcher, but I have friends who do work in the field, and they are not worried about LLM-based AGI because of t

Even if you can observe this induced demand locally in a city or two, the net supply is going up. Globally, demand isn't even fixed. It's proportional to the population size, which we would expect to shrink. The only way this coul

It is. The idea behind using a embedded trusted computing device in this fashion is that you can store a AFU encryption/decryption keys in the trusted computing device and lower-entropy password like a 4-digit pin or biometrics, with t

The best part is that this is going to work for about 5 days until someone develops a computer model of a face that can simulate the inside of the mouth. Then we have two problems!
