How so? There are compiler-agnostic C++ specs, and compiler devs try to be compatible with it. What the GP is suggesting is that the rust compiler should be written and then a spec should be codified after the fact (I guess just for fun?).

Because otherwise the spec is just words on a paper, and the standard is just "whatever the compiler does is what it supposed to do". The spec codifies the intentions of the creators separately from the implementation. In rust, th

When a company has the ability to push OTA updates to a device locked down with trusted computing, it's not even a backdoor at that point, it's a frontdoor. I agree political action here is totally fruitless. The UK government and

I don't socialize with other nerds IRL. I know what you're getting at, but I think it's at the point right now where "normal people" have paranoia of getting locked out of their google/apple accounts, because i

I wonder if the disappearance of small phones is merely to justify a higher price (now around ~$1000). Now that everyone in the world has a smartphone, the only way to increase sales revenue is to sell them more smartphone per smartphone. O

There is no world in which the automation of human-level intelligence pans out well politically. You would just have a single superpower controlling the world. There is no such thing as an AI that is safe "except for jobs or whatever&q

I wasn't planning on investing in those. Aside from ideological reasons, I am pessimistic about their role in the economy. I don't have access to the DOW directly, I would still have to choose individual stocks.

I don't contribute to my 401k or I liquidate whatever is in it as soon as feasible within the tax model. I think I have some index funds but I am going to try to put them into the DOW or gold or something.

I have looked into developing a PWA. For starters: 1. Decent storage API. Last time I checked, there were serious limitations on the amount of storage you can use, especially in iOS 2. Mechanism for the user to save a certain . Analogous to

I have no hope that the solution can be solved through lawfare. The ability of one company to control what the vast majority of people can do with their phones is unacceptable, regardless of what happens with this one app.
