> Amazon does 320 kBPS, but it's still not good enough. Yeah, nah. I'd bet a paycheck or two that no one could tell the difference between a 320kbps mp3 and a CD. And I'd win 99 times out of 100.

I've got 3 Linksys E3000s that seem to be working fine with DD-WRT and Tomato. One's the main router, one's the VPN endpoint(s), and one's a spare.

Trademark law may actually be stupider and more convoluted than even copyright.

In order for the state to keep secrets, it must prove why they need to be secret. You don't just get to blanket everything you do with that excuse.

Bit of a difference between the screen and keyboard -- which users interact with -- and the guts of the thing. Use some common sense.

This is sort of like joking about all the "wasted effort" that went into fixing the Y2K bug. It's not wasted effort if it averts an existential crisis.

What this tells me is that if you're running a website that uses Google advertising as your primary source of revenue, you should probably sell up now and get out while the getting is good. Ad-based sites simply cannot survive anymore

Wow, so a $1300 laptop with no USB ports? Why does Apple keep making their new products worse -- less features but subjectively more "beautiful" -- than the ones before? Somewhere in the attic at One Infinite Loop, is there a pai

It's also a bit daft to not recognize the obvious hyperbole in the headline.

It kinda blows my mind that the US government thinks this is a case they can actually win. If they actually do, it's pretty much all over for democracy in the US.

I've got no problem with anyone inflicting damage on the NSA. The enemy of my enemy is my friend, and all that.

Time to shut down the NSA. They have no place in a free society.

> big oversight on the part of Facebook IMHO. Status updates != tweets For one thing, most status updates aren't public. It would be absolutely horrifying if they suddenly became so, just to be fed into a search engine.

Jesus. When the company I worked for (here in Australia) was subsumed by another, all the contracts were renegotiated specifically to include our years spent at the old company. Going in the opposite direction is pretty awful.

Some American companies apparently have yet to figure out you can fuck over your employees even more by not paying severance. IBM's clearly behind the curve on this trend.

All this tells me, really, is that national security letters and the laws surrounding them are a complete farce. I have a hard time believing the government could ever win a case against someone accused of disclosing the receipt of one.
