I like the idea of EQL, but I'm not sure I want to tie myself to Fulcro. Looking forward to more projects adopting EQL. GraphQL definitely has a number of issues (type explosion being one) that can be avoided with EQL.

Well, all good points, except no one really cares about your data on the cloud. You might see relevant ads though, i.e. your particular docs and photos are just slightly above pink noise. And "take those 4 companies out" is - cl

In the last few months I'm observing TypeScript being pulled into the a direction that Java developers know very well: Complexity. All that was missing was an ORM. Annotation-based, no less. Java devs have made very painful experiences

It does look alien. There's definitely a learning curve. But since you have the REPL, it can be very effective in understanding foreign code. Run some of the functions, add tracing to it, debug printlns, use with-redefs to replace func

I don't think there's a lot of hate. It's just a quirky language that is at the heart of web application development. Based on its history, it has a lot of compromises. And not good ones. It could be vastly improved with a pr

ClojureScript doesn't try to abstract away the DOM. It really depends on the front-end library used. Reagent (and re-frame) is pretty much react with goodies and you can easily integrate other react libraries (using shadow-cljs)

Here's the fundamental thing to understand. Especially if you are new to Lisp: The lines are more concise. That also means you will need more time per line to read the code. Especially in Java, you can skip over so much boiler plate

If you still aren't convinced YAML is terrible, try copying and pasting YAML fragments with a regular text editor. You might end up with valid YAML, but you won't know until the YAML consumer barfs. BTW, all of a sudden XML with D

Do you have a link to a study that has better science in it than the IPCC report? Is there a such a study? If not, maybe, just maybe, the climate scientist are right and the ever increasing CO2 is the culprit. Maybe.

I'm not sure you understand what modularity is all about. There's ample evidence that Functional Programming (esp. with immutable data) gives you a lot of aspects of a 'module' for free. Any function programming language

I can confirm this 100%. Having worked at an old (19 years) Java code-base full of unnecessary patterns & abstractions. Even with really great refactoring help from the IDEA, making meaningful changes is very very time consuming. I'

I've used Versant back in 2001. It was terrific and very fast, but wasn't a good fit for reporting/analysis. Versant was building systems that were updated on the fly without shutdown, which was quite an achievement back then

Interesting examples. Thank you! However, I'm not sure having to parse 3-4 very different syntax constructs to arrive at the same mental model is an advantage. I do appreciate the terseness though.
