Late last year going into early this year I had to deal with ASUS RMA with my ROG Flow X13 and the dock. The dock started failing. They wanted both the laptop and the dock sent in, so I sent both in. It took a while, but they got it taken c

If I'm buying for my home 6 bay NAS, I'll take the savings and buy the HDDs. As it stands now, network performance is my bottleneck, not the hard drives. I'll only consider SSD for that system when the price is competitive. A

There is speech that is not considered protected by the first amendment. I suspect the states would argue the promotion of committing unlawful acts to be unprotected speech. Where this would fall afoul is likely interstate commerce. South C

The bounty law was implemented while Roe v Wade was in effect. Texas also passed a trigger law that, essentially, supersedes the bounty law by changing it from a civil matter to a criminal matter. Since SCOTUS overturned Roe v Wade, the tri

I prefer to encrypt my backup before sending it somewhere I don't control. Having an offsite backup implies not having control over it. "The Cloud" is just someone else's computer, and they can do with it what they want.

I have an ecobee and keep it in a fairly dumb scheduling mode. My primary use, as of now, is to integrate with home assistant so I can have data at hand to make future decisions on energy and system usage. I tried something similar with Nes

Despite my opinions on Google, ChromeOS is interesting to me. But the most interesting aspect of it is missing in Flex: Access to Android apps. This is not ChromeOS, but a subset of it. ChromeOS Flex is not interesting to me.

Following 3-2-1 backups is definitely recommended, and if you have a good NAS setup, it can be pretty easy, even with encrypted backups. My NAS runs TrueNAS Scale. Any data I need to keep around long term goes into a personal share. I have

At my previous job, I despised using Teams. I know, we're not supposed to be multitasking during meetings, but Teams harmed the performance of my computer so much during meetings that I was forced to focus on them. Heaven forbid if I h

I enjoy the concept. I don't enjoy the implementations. Many have these plastic bag hanger things similar to what's been used at checkout for decades. They make using your own reusable bags awkward if they're a bit on the lar

I've seen Ryzen 5000 series laptops with premium displays. I wouldn't consider 4K to be the only metric for that, though. My current Ryzen 5900HS laptop (from 2021) gave me the option of a 1920x1200 display or 3840x2400 at a lower

It depends on what you're looking for. There's been a withdrawal on focusing on 4K displays in laptops. Most of them exist as a marketing point, but provide no ancillary benefits. One thing you might notice is "low res"

I never understand "x times less" valuations. 1.9 times 100k, for example, would be 190k, so is it paying 190k less? How is this intended to be calculated? I never went to college so maybe this is a common way to express something

It sounds like you got regulatory testing done. Again, regulatory testing of diesel emissions are highly lacking, and emissions testing tends to focus more on specific toxins and greenhouse gases. So, sure, maybe you passed regulatory emiss
