I suspect it's the climate and location. pretty much any mid sized great lakes city is the same way. It's ridiculously easy to turn into an alcoholic, especially in the winter.

I had this issue. in my case it was due to clogged up drainage. once I cleaned it out, especially around the door seal, the leaking stopped.

I see emojis in business emails regularly, and I work in a non tech sector. I don't think this says anything about the JavaScript ecosystem.

If I could eliminate 17% of the bugs in a future code base by choosing to use a different language, I would need a strong reason not to.

Installed Windows 10 Home a few weeks, poked around for 5 minutes searching for an offline option until I gave up. I know it used to be there but they have removed it.

Yes - this is because cubes double as offices for small meetings. For every cube you remove, you also remove a 2 or 3 person office.

Does this include things like Windows ME? Testers didn't do such an amazing job on that one.

The reason you can't hang out in them is because there are never enough rooms... which is really the root of the problem.

But you don't rent by cubicle, you rent by floor or building. So adding a new employee when you have hit your max means you have to figure something out or sink a whole lot of money into a new building for one person.

Microsoft has ~ 150,000 employees. I'm not sure why it's interesting that some of those employees put out a subjectively different quality product than others.

This is intentionally done at some larger companies. Engineers are resources (owned, not owners) and management is layered in a way that prevents true authority at all but the highest levels.

I'm back on Linux again after years on Windows 10. It is far far better than in the past but still full of small annoyances. For example, there are two settings for mouse sensitivity (acceleration speed and acceleration delay) but neit
