To add: this is Red Hat Linux 6 or 7, not Red Hat Enterprise Linux - I fondly remember RHL 7.3 in 2002 as the last RedHat I liked; updates were still through RHN or Red Carpet (don’t remember if yum was already used). RHEL, Fedora etc arriv

Do you have a reference for this? It was my assumption too, reading about the Pandemrix vaccine, but I didn’t find any dependable references for this.

Suggestion: Arxiv and many blog archives encode the year in the URL; you could probably add a 3-line filter that suggests a year in case it’s arxiv or /yyyy/ in the URL when yyyy is in range 2005-$currentyear Also: thanks for all

Then it isn't destructor-free (and not passed by reference if it's on the stack).

Or even more simply, by blowing up the stack. If you manage to do 2^40 calls deep without blowing up the stack, you have TCE, if you do blow up the stack, you don't. And you can tell if you blew up the stack by setting up an exception

Some languages (Python, Tcl, R and possibly others) expose the stack as part of the language/standard-library, and thus an implementation that DOES do TCE cannot be compatible. In python, it's mostly visible through exception obje

If you need an infinite loop (or very large iteration count), and rely on TCE but it is not available, the semantics of your program will change. In the "best" case, you'll get a stack overflow exception. In worse cases, your

It might be easier in those languages, but C (and C++), Scheme, Lisp and Nim have macros that could obscure a tail call's missing elimination. It was never a problem for me because I never trust the compiler to do TCE and structure my

I don’t like that it has no special mention. In a factorial function, fac(n-1) would be a tail call, but 0+fac(n-1) would not. It would be nice if one could annotate (and thus make the compiler verify) tail calls.

Password rejection rules are the primary cause of sticky notes with passwords under the keyboard/on the screen - and they are phishable, loggable, videoable and can be deduced from the keyboard click sounds. 2FA / 3FA is a minimum

TCO is an optimization. When it’s a semantic language feature like in Scheme, it should be called “Tail Call Elimination” because lack of it changes program semantics (thus not merely optimization)

Make it an error unless all parameters passed are destructor-free (because there is non like int/pointer, or because they were passed in by reference)

I suspect the Google/Facebook deal for "free backup of WhatsApp chats on your Google account" is exactly that. WhatsApp had perfectly usable encrypted backup - which took up space on your Google backup. And then, all of a sud

I’d be surprised if this isn’t just whitewashing some previously shared data. Also, a preparation for antitrust action - once the data is shared and integrated, even if they are forced to separate WhatsApp, they have all the metadata (which

Average income per user is (say) $10/year. 80% of population is worth $5 and 20% is worth $30 ; but all of the YT premium subscriber are from the 20%, so despite the average only being $10, offering it for less than $30 will lose money

It is the same in Israel. And yet, there’s room for some private health services. In the public system, you usually have a room mate after an operation. If you use the private system, you get a private room and get to request specific food.

Thanks. Should be noted that when talking about e.g. Python dictionaries (and some other in-memory associative arrays), "ordered" refers to insertion order, where as "sorted" refers to key order.
