Keywords are in English, and 99% of identifiers in all code I met are too, even when comments are in French or russian. Pascal and old basic (among other languages) have been case insensitive for decades, and that has not been a problem. In

FWIW, there’s nlvm which is a fork of Nim that emits LLVM IR directly.

I don’t remember the exact options, but there’s a way to make Nim emit warnings (and perhaps errors) for inconsistent capitalization. It isn’t the default, though.

Synology isn’t the cheapest, but they’ve made it “just work”. Every few years - both for home, and for work, I consider getting a “more serious” storage system or building one; and every time I do a serious comparison and end up choosing S

Smallpox vaccine did, in fact, prevent infection and transmission with estimated 95% efficiency and is thus considered sterilizing. The Covid vaccine is very leaky, and Marek’s disease and it’s vaccine in chicken is an interesting compariso

Sorry, meant to write flu. Not sure why I wrote measles. Measles vaccine is, indeed, likely the best vaccine ever in terms of efficiency and safety. It’s also sterilizing rather than leaky.

GP I was responding to claimed SA was a breeding ground for variants. Unless he has a new explanation different from the other hundreds of people with this claim, it eventually rests on a non leaky vaccine. And that’s why I started with thi

This is nonsense. Vaccination did not stop measles or whooping cough, and has not even reduced their spread (only their symptoms) despite decades of availability. Both of their vaccines are leaky - just like the Covid vaccine.

No people have gone through their life without catching the cold and very few without catching the flu at least once, despite having flu vaccines for a few decades now. Not all viruses are the same, and sarscov2 is much more like cold/

It is possible to avoid lockdown by not imposing lockdowns. It is that simple. It is not the vaccine passports that stopped lockdown - in fact, there is no evidence they had any effect on transmission.

The vaccine is leaky. It doesn’t stop infection or transmission. It’s not clear yet if it is putting any evolutionary pressure towards vaccine evasion (some people expect it to). But SA is no more a breeding ground than anywhere else. The w

Sweden’s death rate is worse than its neighbours but way better than e.g. Belgium and Britain that did lock down. It’s also significantly better (x2-x4) than Israel by every excess death measure, where Israel locked down super seriously and

The logic is sound. You can save essentially every single person who will die in a traffic accident by banning cars. That’s likely a hundred or two people a year just in Missouri. There’s a cost and a benefit, and most people would say that

New York is like that too - everyone has the “transitory” mind set and won’t waste time on long term social ties - even the people who have lived there for 20 years. I don’t know if that’s how the rest of the US is, never having lived there
