Even in non-standard models of arithmetic, where you could use infinity as an operand, the value of that expression would have to be undefined (not 1, as you seem to expect).

I know exactly what it means, and I can easily spell it and pronounce it, but it's still horrendous. The person who wrote this poll must be a developer because it's so objectively oriented. Here are some subjective aspects to consider: what

What about: 4) It's not obvious how this bug could happen! Let's think about it!

What are you responding to? TCO could be the second coming of Christ and I'd still think Yegge was being too harsh.

So you'd call him frigid, distrustful, arrogant and unfriendly? That doesn't really follow for me. Edit: You and Guido are in agreement. It's a "feature" in that it visibly affects behavior, whereas an "optimization" would merely make thing

Ugh, why the gratuitous dig at Guido? I think he's done a fine job leading Python, and I've found the Python community to be particularly friendly. Sounds like there's some beef here.

"Bowdlerize" is more specific than "censor". I don't think it applies here.

Yeah. The tradeoff is that smaller tiles are harder on the client. I wasn't really rigorous in choosing the size, so it's likely not optimal. I actually don't use memcache yet.

It's really simple. This was my first App Engine project. There's only one model, Tile, that has contents, namespace, and x/y coordinates. The contents field is a string representing the text in this tile. The namespace tells you what page

I disabled backspace because I wasn't sure whether it should delete the char before the cursor (better for typing) or under the cursor (more natural if you click on something to delete it). Guess I'll just pick one... or have it delete unde

Ctrl-v is intentional. I want to keep it "natural" as long as possible, although I'm sure someone will start crafting spammy POSTs soon enough.

An explanation from the author: This isn't a startup, it's just an idea I thought would be cool. I'm announcing it on HN first, hoping to get technical and aesthetic feedback before I throw the URL around. The two browsers in the submission

It's worth reading to understand what he means when he says: "that liberty, surely, is the product of -- what shall I call it? -- the enthusiastic irreverence of a zero-to-one relationship." Reminds me of some code I've written.

I love couchsurfing, and I've used it a lot as a traveler and a host. The biggest advantage I see for AirBNB is that it makes people's expectations more clear by making it a business transaction. With couchsurfing there's always awkwardness

Even if his "decent college" has such a class, and he can't pass out of it, I can't imagine that one intro class would take up that much time.

I don't think you understood the post. The point isn't that people look forward to holidays, weekends, or whatever particular things were mentioned. The point is that people are too often living looking forward to something .

I prefer the design of Python over Ruby. I'd be hard pressed to explain why -- something vague about Python being straightforward yet graceful -- but that aesthetic preference is enough to sway me.
