90% fiction - hmmmn certainly a lot of the C# criticisms are to do with the Visual Studio IDE differences but to be fair not many people write C# code outside the IDE. It may be unfashionable to say it but VB is a more elegant and discursiv

I am not sure I understand what your problem is here. If negative karma accounts that have not been active for months are downgraded in some way - it just strikes me as sensible housekeeping. Perhaps you can explain the issue as you see it?

Copyright issues might be seen as an "edge case" at HN if it were not for the fact that software is so intimately affected by copyright law. On the "big brother" bit - I think you should understand that HN is not designed specifically to we

Hi - maybe I can point you in the right direction. You made 2 comments to a post about disrupting Hollywood. The first was very short and very likely to attract negative votes - HN likes a reasoned argument. But what you may ask of the seco

Read their blogs and you will see that SO is keen that you use any available OpenID provider to log in to their site - they have no interest in any one such provider. Should you have persevered through the terribly difficult task of establi

What a load of whining rubbish. Anyone who thinks a short password is secure in this day and age is nuts - particularly as just such individuals re-use passwords across services. This person would be the first to decry SO if there was any b

Stack Overflow is where this sort of question should be asked - HN is not a QA site. As it happens Stack Exchange is an OpenID provider see http://blog.stackoverflow.com/2011/05/stack-exchange-is-an-o... and while their technology may dif

Not at all sure why this post is getting up-votes. The short article (with lots of adds) simply describes what would be the default set-up for anyone starting Android development. I suspect this is a site with no value added just designed t

First off - "he" gave you an NDA to sign but we are talking about your IP - so that's the wrong way around. More important - if you don't feel you can trust this guy - then you should not do business with him. Simple - perhaps not logical

This is silly. If you were the sort of person that needed to control the business (or me to control it for you) then I do not want to work with you. I have held 50% of the shares of an active company since 1988 - and never a cross word. My

Hashing a salted password is definitely the way to go - and of course if your hash algorithm is worth anything you should not be able to "unhash" it again. It would, I suppose, be possible to salt and encrypt a password before storing it an

The News (Social bookmarking) pages on our web site are pretty similar as well. Clean minimalist layouts with similar functionality are going to look similar whatever the style influences - well apart from the CSS.

Hi Chris, it's fun and all that but is HN the best place for your marketing efforts? I'm not sure that, as a group, this is a paper based calendar audience - even when the sheets are quite large. good luck with it though.

Thanks for the help - so it is a "result type" (not so much core) - OK that will save a few lines of code - unless I have to write as many lines to handle result sets that do not parse... I suspect I am not a big fan of abstractions.
