There was a period where many were presenting a CDC Ethernet device instead, although this seems to have gone out of fashion again.

We never used the tablet, until we went on holiday recently with our 20 month old. By necessity she was eating up late with us (normally asleep by 7:30ish at home). Tablet was employed to maintain sanity. Had a bad effect - became very dema

I'd argue that the load is partially to blame as well for not soft-starting, like most ACs do.

I thought most compressors were soft start - Most of the gear I’ve seen waits a random amount of time before spinning up for this exact reason (Power cuts and loads of fridges, ACs, ovens, whatever coming back on at once with a big ol’ indu

I think theres a general need to dig more into differential privacy and how data can be effectively anonymized for research purposes if its done right. https://towardsdatascience.com/understanding-differential-pr...

Have a look into differential privacy - theres a lot more to it than just stripping names.

I suspect you may be being a little too literal here. It is an existential risk to the software development house.

I need to get better at doing that. The cycle to the office (55 mins / 23kms each way) is really good on the days I go in, but I just can't motivate myself to do the same on the days when I'm not going in!

Reading a lot of the comments, I think I must be an outlier. I've got a nice study at home, with a really good PC setup, rock solid gigabit internet, very nice office chair, all the coffee in the world. But I still really like going in

I'd disagree in the case of well engineered iDrive / MMI style controllers. I can operate a lot of the iDrive without looking, and certain controls (radio presets etc) show on the high mounted screen which button you're hover

Unfortunately these ones arent the recent ones (that A3 has been gone for a couple of years). They went from these style screens with MMI controllers in the centre, but if you buy an A4 or better now, you get 2 touchscreens and no tactile c

I think no one is ever satisfied with the "feel" in cheaper cars. The BMW iDrive controller feels fantastic to use, as does the Audi MMI (to a slightly lesser extent) (...before they canned it)
