Another important dimension when evaluating these regexes is performance. The Gruber v2 regex has exponential (?) behavior on certain pathological inputs (at least in the python re module). There are some examples of these pathological inp

I've been playing with Cython recently and I'm really impressed with its compatibility with arbitrary Python code. It's possible to compile all of Tornado with only minor changes (for a ~25% speedup without any type annotati

The Unicode solution chosen by Python 3 required a major backwards incompatibility, but that wasn't the only possible solution to Python 2's Unicode problems. The biggest problem in Python 2 was simply that the implicit conversio

There were some early (third-party) online app stores too - sites that would handle payment processing and host your .prc files for you (e.g. https://web.archive.org/web/20020124152252/http://www.palmge..

You can also use a statistical/sampling profiler like https://github.com/bdarnell/plop . This is useful for getting profile data from a live server because it has much lower overhead than the other options and can

The linked article didn't make this clear, but this feature is mainly designed for process-per-core models, not process-per-connection. The problem you run into with most existing process-per-core systems is that you can't ensure

It uses unix sockets. Latency is the same as the standard pre-forking model; the only difference is that file-descriptor passing lets you manage the worker processes independently instead of requiring them to have a common parent process (

This is a good writeup. On Tornado I went through a similar transition from 2to3 to a single codebase. As long as you can drop Python 2.5 support you can probably avoid 2to3, but if you do need it I wrote some tools to make it less painful

FYI Tornado now has PDF and epub downloads available: https://readthedocs.org/projects/tornado/downloads/ Many python projects have PDF docs produced automatically by readthedocs, although they're often not easily discoverable.

Start out by sending dummy data as fast as you can. Once you've sent a few TB you can be relatively confident that it's going to a terminal instead of a file (which would have filled up the disk by now). Then you can start slowly sending

The biggest obstacle there is the lack of setuptools/distribute integration. It's easy to run 2to3 at install time when your source distribution is python2, but there's no support for going in the other direction.
