The better word is "quicker". Faster = bandwidth. Quicker = latency. 56k connections can have good latency, depending on packet size.

I've always verified the checksums of files transmitted via netcat and occasionally I have had different checksums. It's rare, and only on gigabyte+ files, but it has happened.

I think the better reasoning behind using high-end locks in your home is that you have a much better chance of knowing your house has been broken in to. With standard locks, a thief can quickly and easily gain access without the homeowner
