Most enterprises already outsource a lot of their IT, data warehousing especially whether its to a big player like IBM or boutique consultancies. For most applications does it really matter whether the data sits in your data center or Amazo

It can certainly do that, though for most cases we have found that network throughput and disk I/O will get in the way first (for other FDWs.. we have never used the Redis one).

Some of the postgres fdws dont pass conditions to the foreign data source because the mapping is sometimes "too hard". So the fdw will do something like select * from table, stream the results and postgres will do the rest of the heavy lift

Fairly certain port forwarding still works while a command specified in ForceCommand is still running or if you specify a non-interactive shell. Though I haven't checked ;)
