Can you provide more details? Links to the implementation of available? Framework you used? Pain points?

I love NewPipe! Especially for downloading kids videos for plane rides. Thanks for writing it!

https://proton.me/blog/authenticator-rust - I think this is what you're referring to? Looks really nice

Is that file more secure than the environment variables it's replacing? On Linux I think you can secure it to just your service with SELinux. Not sure about Windows

Any good cross-platform and easy ways to share secrets without using environment variables?

I don't think it's unreasonable that devs should have to learn about database details to correctly use a database. Could you list some specific examples where things broke because of SQLAlchemy's design?

Sounds interesting - I'm not entirely convinced it would work, but I'm certainly less of an expert than you on this :D

Thanks for writing - I found the Power of Two Choices algorithm particularly interesting (I haven't seen it before). From the recent grpConf ( https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLj6h78yzYM2On4kCcnWjl... ) it seems

You really don't think ownership systems are that complex kibwen? I just watched a recent Polonius talk ( https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=uCN_LRcswts ) and came away very impressed with the difficulty of implementing (or

Does anyone have good examples of the "metaprograms (programs that make/analyse a program" he's referring to? Making these types of programs relatively easy in Go (with stdlib ways to manipulate source code) has been a h

This is very clever, but I'd have to relearn Make's subtleties each time I tried to debug it or add a feature (count me in the "prefer to avoid it" crowd). I ended up writing a Go CLI to symlink my dotfiles. It's pr

I see your point but I wouldn't let the perfect be the enemy of the good. If I just want to run a random Docker container, I'm grateful I can get at least "some security" without paying as much in setup/debugging&#x

The author makes good arguments; I wish they'd offered some alternatives. Despite issues, protobufs solve real problems and (imo) bring more value than cost to a project. In particular, I'd much rather work with protobufs and thei

I like this point of view but putting logic in the database also has downsides - the tooling in particular is bad. No debugger, hard to write tests, can't canary changes, bad or non-existent autocompletion, lack of linters, etc.

Aside from the excellent technical bits, I really enjoyed the meta "pick your battles" but also "try things and have fun" part at the end. It's how I try to approach side projects too

As this is a single-user CLI tool I don't need any concurrency. So I can probably use the timestamp directly instead of a UUID and not worry about multiple timelines. On thinking more this morning I think I can keep my original tables

Maybe I could convert every table into a "log" table (i.e., append only similar to your blog) and add a timestamp column to each table (or UUID). Then I also store all of these UUIDs in another table to keep track of the global or
