From a mobile perspective, I used to be heavily invested in the Android ecosystem. Now I use an iPhone and and willingly hand over my Apple tax every few years and will continue to do so whilst I can afford it. Google's direction is a

I was in exactly the same camp as you a year ago. Then I played with a hand-me-down iPhone 6s and couldn't believe how much more pleasant it was to use iOS than to use Android (Nougat at the time). Having owned an iPhone 3G and 5, my m

The Arabs had translated many Greek and Roman works into Arabic, and then these were translated back into Latin by monks hundreds of years later during the time of the crusades. So not the original works, but not anecdotal either. https:&#

For anyone interested in this, the Roman Empire series on Netflix is very good. Presented in a mini-series format, the primary characters, events and dates end up sticking in one's mind. Crassus's death at the hands of the Parthia

I have a Kobo Aura One too -- it's really a fantastic device. Waterproof (bathtime reading), large screen and "open" to all e-book formats. I used to have a Kindle but felt like I was reading a book on a postage stamp.

The devil is in the details. We can produce the energy but don't have the battery technology to store it beyond a certain timeframe, e.g. efficiently storing the solar energy from summer for use in winter. Lithium ion batteries have ab

I get the feeling it's more generational than geographical. People who are making the decisions today won't be around to experience their consequences.

Sadly, your suspicion seems to be supported by even more anecdotal evidence. From the Economist: "While [Elon Musk danced] with his first wife on their wedding day, he told her, “I am the alpha in this relationship.” [1] [1] https:&#x

Quite. By the same token, if I took my healthy dog into my vet to have it euthanized, I am sure my vet would refuse to do so, and probably inform the relevant authority.

The new one with Neil deGrasse Tyson. To be fair, the effects end up helping once the series moves along. Visualizing 13.5 billion years is not easy, but the show does a remarkable job -- a few million years is but a blink of an eye.

Love the lead picture -- because, you know, you're obviously not in tech if you're not wearing a t-shirt, hoodie and jeans ensemble in an environment where they would otherwise be out of place.

If you find this interesting, I'd highly recommend watching the Cosmos series on Netflix. Once you get past the first few minutes of cringeworthy effects, it gets deep very quickly and presents the evolution of our species, planet and

I recently visited Stanley Mills, on the river Tay just outside Perth in Scotland. It's now a fascinating museum, and focuses on the history of the cotton mill and its workers. In the early 1800s the mill employed 885 workers. 540 were

I wonder whether the camels will begin to be farmed intensively, the same as cows? To get cows to produce milk for us, they are artificially inseminated or introduced to a bull once a year to produce a calf. If the calf is born female, she

Bezos realistically has about 30 to 40 years to enjoy his position in the world and then will go the way of everyone else. If one believes in karma, in a future life he may yet get to experience the fruits of the world he helped to create.

Just use a VPN on your phone. Then the IP address accessing websites won't be the same as the IP address from your telco. Surely that would prevent a lookup of your details?

I agree, it's not hard. However, I know some people who just can't grasp how to set up a mail account or even use Dropbox. For them, unlocking a bootloader is nigh on impossible.
