It is similar to what folklorists like the Grimm brothers did, or the publisher of the Arabian Nights, Antoine Galland, so not necessarily suspect.

He claimed he had collected and recorded orally transmitted verse, just like other folklorists did at the time. It is still unclear whether he made it all up or whether some of the material was indeed based on now lost oral sources. An inte

I’m fascinated by the Ossian affair. But I don’t get the premise of this article. The “social network” of characters in Ossian is closer to characters in Irish legends than to Homer? You would expect that even if it had been authentic ancie

I’m not sure “making sense” is a relevant criteria when discussing mythology. The fact remains that Jesus (or at least the author of Luke) interpreted it as Satan.

The famous answer is wrong though, since the question is about tokenization of XHTML (not parsing into a tree) which is indeed possible using a regex. This is why none of the condescending answers suggest a better way. There isn’t one.

I’m referring to Luke 10:18 which does say Satan.

It doesn’t. The narrative of Satan as a fallen angel is much older than Milton. In the gospel of Luke Jesus says “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven”.

Python is low-code compared to assembler. SQL is low-code. Much discussion around low-code (and no-code) miss that it is just abstraction. The question is not if we should use abstractions or not, but what constiutes good and bad abstractio

Brittanica is not a primary source either. Encyclopedias are considered tertiary sources. Encyclopedias are not supposed to perform original research but to aggregate and condense information from secondary sources. What sources do you thin

It was probably the lack of structure like blocks and scopes. Everything is flat and global and GOTO means control can enter and exit at any point.

I’m not sure Dijkstras quote had that much of an effect. Visual Basic was one of the most popular languages until Microsoft killed it. Basic evolved to have blocks, scopes, procedures, and functions. Visual Basic is probably closer to Algol

Dijkstra was a blowhard anyway. He belived students should prove programs correct on paper before they were allowed to type them into the computer. Basic on the other hand allows a fast feedback cycle of experimenting and learning.

How about doing the same with other assets - land, real estate? After 20 years ownership reverts to the public. You can enjoy your house for 20 years.

This isn’t some clever gotcha. Disney didn’t mind paying for the rights to adapt copyrighted material, like they did for Bambi, Dumbo, Peter Pan etc.
