Please elaborate why PHP is an inadequate tool for developing multi-platform, network-intensive applications?

OP asked what stops people from switching to BSD. I agreed that for me, too, the missing Docker toolchain/runtime is a dealbreaker for me, as I have to work with these technologies on a daily basis. As Docker and friends see rapid ad

I'm well aware that there's tons of time proven software that serves us well and will continue to do so for some decades. Yes, most of this is not written in the PL/framework combo du jour, true. You seem to think I want ever

It's not about current market share but about adoption rates. Which container technology/toolset/ecosystem is more likely to be adopted by the average software shop today?

* Because my company runs OCI images (aka uses Docker), not jails. * Because you can't orchestrate jails with Kubernetes, and that's what my company uses. Docker won over the industry, jails and friends did not.

Yeah, but the question is whether a DAG is a good mental model for a VCS. Just because that's the underlying data structure doesn't mean it has to be the user interface too.

I'm from Germany and I find it sounds disturbing as well, never heard of such thing before. However according to some this apparently is common industry practice. So I wonder, what exactly happens at a sexual harassment training?

Calendar UIs commonly demand stuff like auto-refreshing, datetime selects, drag-dropping items around, resizing those, list goes on. Please elaborate how you'd build a "simple solution" that does not resort to client-side ren

This is true, the author seems to imply that it's somehow possible to always avoid complex UI state. Might be true for some UIs, but definitely not for all (e.g. a calendar UI would suck big time when rendered exclusively on the server

Is there an OCI runtime for one of the BSDs available? I saw some commit messages in the containerd repository mentioning OpenBSD, but afaik running containers on BSD is still not officially supported?

I wholeheartedly agree with this. It's one of many HN debates that boil down to whether X is the right tool. Thing is, you can't judge about the usefulness of a tool without factoring in its users. If you and your team have experi

No one who's in a position to decide about COBOL's replacement has any strong incentives to do so. You don't want to be the one exec who made that risky move and crushed half their bank's tech foundation in the process.
