Fair enough. Even a single peace deal would have been a huge accomplishment. The fact there’s multiple in one year is awesome. Gives me hope than we’ll see a peace deal with the West Bank and Gaza Strip within the decade.

Article forgets the biggest of them all. Peace in the Middle East. Not once in my life did I think 2020 would be the year when many middle eastern countries sign peace deals with Israel. Heck there’s already Israeli Jewish weddings in Dubai

Airbnb does this all the time. Their advertised prices don’t include cleaning fees. If Airbnb included those fees the pricing would often come out higher than a hotel in many cases. And hotels include cleaning costs as part of the nightly r

The fact one service had an issue. And not only did it take said service down globally, it also impacted dozens of other services...globally. A good infra architecture has the “blast radius” of any issue confined to only part of your infra

Curious how Spotify and other enterprise GCP users have mitigated GCPs repeated global outages. This isn’t their first nor will it be their last.

Disagree. Most large app devs directly care about battery life these days.

That’s false. The policy only covers services being turned down. A-la Google reader style. Not api changes. Not forced sdk/software upgrades. Or pricing changes.

If California can claim the work was done in or for California. They’ll tax it. If you work remote from Texas but hr says your desk is in California. You owe California taxes.

Worse than that. Its AppEngine Standard vs AppEngine Flex vs Cloud Functions vs Cloud Run vs KNative (Cloud Run, but different). Oh and if you used AppEngine Standard, you can't move to Flex as Flex came with a whole new set of librari

Even if the lockdowns do nothing to stop the spread? San Mateo county isn’t an average joe middle America bumble-nowhere county. It’s populace is highly educated with the nuance something all can comprehend.

Bay Area has some busy shipping ports and a lot of commerce flowing throw it. It’s not within the regions power to shut down the state and interstate highways. Spread was going to come from the rest of the country no matter what they did.

They just don’t have the data. Look I got covid while wearing a mask. Infection was either at a grocery store. Or while walking at a park. Or while at a dog park. Or who knows. How do you log that in your stats?

Wouldn’t Wordpress + cdn basically give the same performance but with more functionality. The only time the request needs to hit the origin is if nobody fetched the page.

Energy has a cost. Using 100$ of energy is much different than 1 million. Capitalism actually mitigates the risk. Companies won’t pay 1 million in R&D to replace 100k of salary.

You do realize just how small this co2 output is compared to the human co2 output it replaces. You realize the shear scale of co2 output the office the engineers who wrote the model, drove to work, education, etc produced. I’m actually supr

Was curious the cost and storage amount. Had to dig into the faq just to find out how much storage was involved. getting pricing and storage for the offering took me at least 10 clicks. Honestly it turned me off from the product suite.
