It's interesting you say that because I've had the exact opposite experiences. I drive from Mercer Island to Spokane every weekend, and I commute from Puyallup to Mercer Island every day for work. Going to work I'll see anywh

IIRC you can `SET ROLE = ...`, query, `RESET ROLE` and be done with it. Might need transactions, I'm not sure. I fiddled around with it a bit but it was too much overhead to work with.

It's about a 13 hour drive from Seattle to UCB. A lot of I-5 (sans Oregon) is 70 mph, so the flow of traffic is 80 or more. When I drove down with a friend we left Puyallup, Washington at about 11 AM and made it to Los Angeles by 4 AM

Big distinction -- people are moderated for their content on Hacker News , not off. If this speaker makes a racial slur he'll likely be removed from the conference. Inside the conference (much like HN) they're free to limit his s

It should be noted 'free speech' is the reason you can have this conversation in the first place. You can't have your cake and eat it too. That is, if you wish to not have your opinions censored you cannot ask for the censo

For whatever reason I've always found McDonalds to have terrific drip coffee too. Much better than the "coffee" I brew at home to save the $5 and 500 cal Starbucks coffee.

I'm curious if anybody else has links to documentation for other non-public APIs. It's interesting to see how companies structure their APIs, and public APIs usually seem to be much different from private.

Theoretically they (or whomever writes an OS in Go) could extend the runtime to add something like `makestack(Type, size IntegerType) Type` to mimic alloca or add in a guarantee that `var b [100]byte` will be allocated on the stack. (Right

Probably polarizing because people believe so differently about giving. Some believe that "good" giving means giving a large portion of what you have, not a small fraction. Others believe a gift is good gift, no matter how small.

I noticed the article said that 100g of mutton flaps is around 400 kcal. If the average Tongan can or will eat 1kg of mutton flaps per day (like the article says) that's insane and definitely a cause of obesity. (Or, at least should be
