Obviously having a drink with the colleagues has nothing to do with alcoholism. I was responding to the comment that 'in the extreme, alcohol is a truth serum'. It isn't.

Diplomacy brings flexibility. A well oiled team always has some level of diplomacy to keep everyone working shoulder to shoulder pointing in the same direction. I don't think collective harmony aims to be a dick either.

Alcoholics lie, cheat and steal to fuel their habit. Extreme alcohol is a horrific poison to the body and mind. I'd wager a healthy man who can drink you under the table, wouldn't reveal any secrets. He'll finish the drink in

It's artificial. The Chinese reputation is so poor in the West, people have to be forced to buy them. The cars coming out of traditional manufacturers have onbvious flaws that could be fixed tomorrow. But they don't...

You have no idea how much it pleases people in charge to have complete surveillance. It's pathetic.

Obesity is foremost a governing problem. Why do we allow people to buy and sell addictive fast food? Living life perfectly is not a solution to the obesity epidemic.

The cultural context of colloquial speech is incredibly difficult to pick up online. It is literally never communicated, you have to scrape Culture Shock and reaction videos for weeks to piece it together. Or study full time, or live there.

It bugs me how similar Youtube Shorts is to the spinning wheel game on The Price Is Right. So much of social media is TPIR style gambling for dopamine and worthless knowledge.

Total data collection and we still can't attribute copyright to the creator of the work. Content creation is a free-for-all. No genuinely sane person would try to bring good content to this tech landscape. We broke the old institutions

Yeah it changed mid-2020. Youtube was a nice place to go. Cheap entertainment is getting boring.

All good. I have nothing to add to that. Real life people who know you, would have more to say. I hope it works out.

I'm a man who wasted twenty years programming with nothing to show for it. I moved on, to a working class job. You're riding false hope and trying to get blood from a stone. HN doesn't pay for commenters, it pays start ups. Y

So you want to preserve a problematic principle to keep talking about it's contents? How terribly meta. The shirky principle is not needed. Shirk is already an English word meaning 'avoid or neglect responsibility'.

He sounds plenty motivated. He's willing to start his own business to chase a $5 million dollar idea. In a knowledge based role, the company is paying you to churn out solutions to their problems because the technology stack is setup t

There's nothing cryptic about his post. He'a referring to an idea that sounds nice in theory and doesn't work in practice. It's a common English phrase. And the phrase works well, the concept of informed concept sounds g

Yes, changed country, friends and job. In the end, old family ties brought me back to where I started. It is very hard for a tiger to change it's stripes. I've gotten better results standing up, from where I am now. The radical ch

That attitude is insane and politically naive. Yout biggest peer competitor copy-pasted your military technology because you can't keep secrets. You made your allies poor by taking away the advantage of research and you can't stop

Make it socially unacceptable for anyone to use foreign electronics and scan the RF spectrum for unathorized devices. It's not that hard if you're really committed and can accept chasing up offenders after-the-fact.

Our society was based on population growth. It's not that it needs to grow or doesn't need to grow. It's that the change to our way of life and economy is as big as ww2. Peter Zeihan does a good lecture explaining the impact.
