I thought it simulated reasonably well the dynamics of a lone gunman on a mission in a civil war. It seems to me the only way to navigate such warzones would be stealth or disguise. All the other FC games are stealth games too, BTW. The lat

Hybrid solutions are possible; e.g. JSONB in Postgres, where you can still index and join with decent performance.

FC1 lost its fun with the mutants. FC2 never stopped being fun to me, because it was essentially a giant open world game of Thief: get from A to B without being detected (since enemy patrols respawned, there was no point killing them).

Far Cry 3 and subsequent games were pop fun with little replayability. FC2 was a game I've lived in, with a printout of the map, marked up for patrols, so I could navigate safely from A to B for each mission. Better? I'd rather sa

If you have 10-15% of items with food stuck on them after a wash, you need either a better dishwasher, better detergent (there is a noticeable range in quality) or both.

Russia denies air supremacy with a spectrum of anti air defences, not air superiority fighters. IIRC Russia is at 99% air defence effectiveness vs the start of the Ukraine war; i.e. it has not been materially degraded at all, despite HARM a

Part of it is justifying the ad load by comparison with American broadcast TV (up to 18 minutes of every hour), while not recognizing that that level of ad load is not well known in Europe, for one thing.

One of the points of the article is that duplicate messages are a side-effect of error recovery, which is external to the queue itself. Even if your queue guaranteed exactly-once delivery, the thing which processes the delivery may fail, wh

Stable Diffusion takes 3.9 seconds to produce 8x 256x256 images (so about 0.5 seconds each), or 2 seconds to produce 1x 256x256 images. That's with DPM++ 2M Karras sampling with 20 iterations on a 3090.

What kind of park has a biking path, I wonder to myself. I personally have never seen it; generally, paths are either mixed use or pedestrian only. Mixed use is fine, for people who go at an appropriate pace when in proximity to pedestrians

Compilers generating stack probes for large stack allocations has been a thing for decades. It was required in Windows 95 for 32-bit applications, and you'd do that on a page (4k) granularity. I am still in the dark as to what the bug

Bikes do annoy people with small children because some people try to ride bikes fast where not appropriate, and this is dangerous when small children change direction unpredictably.
