Someone should do a study comparing the two labor markets. There’s definitely a thesis somewhere in there for an economics PhD student. How is it that two very similar industries that nearly share the same talent pool can have radically dif

I wouldn’t necessarily say the first thing is good. Those profits are partially the result of non-competitive behavior everyone would be better off if they were much smaller. But, indeed, the title is there to be provocative.

I'm not totally sold on the merits of teaching kids to code. I didn't learn how to code until I was 27 and turned out fine.

I think I might trust an “AI” pilot more than a human one. Human pilots often fail to respond to unexpected conditions as well (see Air France Flight 447). Pilots have also gone nuts and crashed the plane intentionally (see Germanwings Flig

I really don't get the rush to try to travel to/colonize Mars. Mars is a really awful place for humans to live or visit, and it would be incredibly expensive to try. Why not wait 50-100 years when we have safe, compact fusion reac

Some time ago, I looked at my alma mater’s course list to complete a CS major (I was an Econ major) since I was curious to see how useful those classes might have been to me now as a SWE. Not very much, IMO. If I were to mentor someone ente

All coins are pretty terrible. When the US was trying to push those dollar coins, there was an argument that the government would make money by selling the new coins (through seigniorage), but that argument was counteracted by the fact that

Thanks for the response. I’m also curios how other languages are contending with the backlash against gendered words. Everything in French, Spanish, Italian, etc. is gendered, right?

It’s really not fair to criticize Big Tech for not having demographics that mirror the US population as a whole. There’s so many large, societal factors standing in the way of black people and people of color from being able to even conside
