No, not really bringing us back where we were. Back then in the beginning it was a federated XMPP implementation and you could talk with G Chat accounts from outside the Google ecosystem and that's not changing. Also, there's anot

b2 and Scaleway are quite cheap (Wasabi would have been cheaper but that's >= 1TB). Check this post put [1] - not mine. I personally use b2 with restic. [1] https://medium.com/@simon_80033/how-cheap-can-cloud-st

I don't seem to any benefit here. In fact it takes away from the experience of going to a bookstore and everything related to it; at a higher cost and with a delayed delivery. Besides is this site a non profit? For all I know they migh

Till the time widespread testing is ensured (and hospitals have some breather). Then test and isolate the clusters and keep relatively relaxed other "relatively unaffected" areas and not impose full blown lockdown.

> At best it buys you time. That's the very point. It takes some (or a lot of) burden off the health infra. Lockdown is being done in many countries so that not everybody will need hospitalisation at the same time.

I've used some of their Android apps (Apple Music for the longest time). It feels like someone made them as a weekend project and then Apple forgot to take it down.

At this point the only two things that are stopping me from leaving Apple: - The hope that iPhone 9 will not be a gigantic phone and it might actually be around the size of SE. - There's nowhere to go to. Can't go back to generic

I used to have this 2-4 days of sore throat (with mild fever and some maybe mild sputum coughing) at max 2-3 times a year and other than nothing else at all. Since last one and a half years I have this daily thing - in the morning I wake u

I might give Android another try seeing iPhones have also started growing faster than my palm. But I don’t see any sanely sized phones for which there’s a zero friction google-free Android migration available with at least 3-4 years of supp

I also find Signal’s phone requirement a red flag but that string (guess it’s random, isn’t it?) is anything but intuitive.

I can tell you why I stopped using it. It was clear after a few months that features, layout, and UX wasn’t being developed keeping individual users in mind. Later the CEO stated that they are not at all their concerns. And compared to Sig

I don’t even install any other terminal. I just update bash to latest and stick to stock terminal. I have come to believe that often tool overload adds to the clutter and complexity and problems that didn’t need solving in the first place.

One reason I stopped using was it turned from delightfully light to painfully bulky. Also its deliberate transition (I’m sure they had reasons for that) from a simple chat app to more Slack like.

I’d say it’s another missed opportunity for decentralised communication apps and services. None of them are in a state to be adopted by mass and for critical use-cases.

I think RiotX is supposed to replace Riot eventually, at least the Android client https://github.com/vector-im/riotX-android . Didn't find a link for an iOS client though.

Kind of unfortunate that Matrix is probably not focussing on making the protocol and apps easy to get on and use Matrix/Riot as a WhatsApp, Signal replacement for end users (person to person comm). It seems to be just for teams and org
