I kind of agree, but in a merely technical way :) I like the oriental philosophical outlook, so basically, I would have to say, the world is simply what it is. Labelling it "good" or "bad", in an absolute-judgement kind

Maybe downvotes could be split in two. 1. a downvote button, which is available to everyone, but affects only the ranking on the comment list (no graying out due to too many downvotes) 2. a "flag" button, which is available to peo

A little meta - where can I find some written guidelines for HN commenting? It was my understanding that downvotes serve for moderating (their cumulative effect is to gray out a comment...). The comment above has been downvoted somewhat, an

Wow, that was pretty patronizing! But I think I made a certain argument. You don't have to agree, but it would be nice if you don't just blame it all on my supposed unwillingness to learn new stuff ;)

I'd like to just clarify one thing - of course everyone can ignore the new features when writing their code, but no one can ignore them when reading other people's code. Undoubtedly, a JS programmer must get a handle on them all,

No offense meant to anyone, but I really do not like this constant stream of new features in JavaScript. There are some core issues with the language which, of course, cannot be just fixed, and no new features will make them go away. But th

I think it's not so much the fact that developers praised Angular, but rather this same above mentioned proliferation of frameworks - with so many choices, at some point it becomes paradoxically more likely that people will follow the

Ah, yes. Thank you! Although, that means the 10x setup must cost much more. I think the idea in the comments above was taking 10 cheaper, weaker servers and somehow coming out with roughly the same price... Well, in any case, things just go

Apart from what other commenters already said about the cost of software complexity, is there a variant of Amdahl's law that could be used here? 10x 100 GB servers working on a problem together will probably never be 10x faster than 1x

I guess his answer to that Zen koan - when a tree falls in the forest and no one is there to here it, did it make a sound - is a simple no :D This started out interesting, then went absurdely tentative, and finally turned into Sokal affair

My point has nothing to do with the specifics, I was merely pointing out that attacking patriarchy is not an attack against all men. That should be pretty obvious, but hey... I don't know if I can give you a quality definition of patri

That's naive. Even when I'm not "inflammatory", I often get downvoted when I express viewpoints which are not exactly popular here. OTOH, I see comments, sometimes in reply to me, which are pure trolling, but nothing hap

First of all, hypocrisy again - you say blaming patriarchy is lame, "default boogeyman" and so on, but you completely fail to see you use feminism in exactly the same way. MRAs typically blame EVERYTHING on feminism. Any kind of p

You're really just trolling, are you? :) I already answered this - all systems come with ideals, myths, additional narratives that serve to explain why things are the way they are. And so patriarchy comes with the concept of the ideal

Well, it should not be easy to misunderstand an attack on patriarchy as an attack on all men. That misunderstanding makes no sense, unless a person has certain rhetorical goals... Generally, your approach is smart, but topics like this have
