Threads isn't launched in EU possibly because it's spyware and not compliant with GDPR. Coming from Meta, and given Facebook, their main product, why would you think it can develop a better culture? On Twitter/X, the reality

I'd rather not be mistaken for a populist. Certainly elites have been pushing society forward. Democracy is about accepting the fact that people know their own needs better than everyone else does, and that they should be free to expre

We often look down on "the people", but the masses have more wisdom than the elites, even if societal consensus can sometimes lead to terrible solutions to problems. Democracy is nuanced, much like reality, and this bothers people

I haven't opened Edge in a while, but it used to give you a consent dialog from IAB, with which Microsoft informed you that they share your data with the entire advertising industry. Its telemetry is probably impossible to deactivate.

Blocking ads is morally OK only as long as that's the only way to consume that content, and as long as you're not trying to block anti-ad-block warnings. If there's a reasonably priced subscription available (or another busin

I'm paying $8.30 / month for the Family option. That's like 2 or 3 coffees. In other countries this is more expensive, but it's adjusted for local buying power. Both you and the parent simply come up with reasons to avoi

I don't see a problem with banning legitimate ads. Please keep in mind that ads are messages that visitors never subscribed for. The only party that loses here is the advertiser, and I couldn't care less. In fact, the problem with

Wi-fi doesn't work well due to the number of people connecting. You also have LTE connectivity, working poorly due to the number of connected people, but I could send pictures as I was making them, so good enough.

Good to know, will try it, although I don't understand how Firefox's uBlock Origin can work without having its own rendering engine. Are you sure it works?

Bromite's ad-blocking is very basic, the worst of the bunch. But it's a decent choice nonetheless.

Safari on iOS does have ads blocking, e.g., AdGuard, Wipr, 1Blocker. It doesn't work so well versus uBlock Origin, ofc. Alternative browsers don't have that much control over what's rendered, so they are probably using the sa

YouTube's own video ads can currently be blocked. I predict, however, that Google won't allow this for long, because there were already signs that they are deploying anti-ad-blocking detection. People don't realize, but the d

Meta is only offering this because the EU is forcing their hands to ask for consent without degrading service for those that refuse. "Selling" user data isn't legal without a basis under GDPR and they don't have it. Also

That's DNS-level blocking and it won't work for long, being the kind of ad-blocking that's the easiest to circumvent. Companies simply didn't bother to do it. But as a test, try blocking ads in any social app, like Faceb

Facebook is also deploying anti-adblock tech, so even on the desktop, even when ad-blocking seems to work, it's only temporary. uBlock Origin or Brave, doesn't matter, Facebook beats all ad-blockers.
