But what if you don't need a full RDBMS but all the nice characteristics of a REST interface? Think about CouchDB and friends.

A pretty similar design was my first try for a simple whiteboard system but switched to another misuse of memcahced with prepend and append. Timing out of old messages is a nice feature of this solution. These are dirty hacks comparing to a

I do my scrapping with BeautifulSoup from Python, actually from an iPython shell. With a urllib2 opener you could easily handle cookies and UserAgent pretty easy, the later is also important for some sites.

Is there something like CAS of memcached? It's fine to live without locking but low-level atomic functionality is essential.

There is an interesting difference how the pages scanned in this video. The eye movement on the one with mostly images were more random than on a text based.

"There are many versions of vi, and I'm going to be showing you how to use a version of vi called vim." Is there any other clone still under active development? Long years ago Vim won, hands down.

SimpleDB is hard to get from a traditional SQL point of view, but it's a joy to use in practice. My simple-minded solution was to add an invisible local cache for all of my writes and except the fact from all other players that I'm possibly

There is more than one way to do it. Design patterns, basic principles of style, all of these are only soft recommendations, don't mistify them. Try to cope with the existing code, probably you will learn from the old fart.

"What's new in P3K" mentions that print is function at the very top. For existing code there is a nice conversion 2to3 which convert most of the artifact like a charm. It worth to read some documentation before shouting.
