>suing Google has a severely steep climb up a very tall mountain. Google hires the best lawyers and they fight like bulldogs. Polite bulldogs. But they don't just roll over, and Google's track record is very, very impressive. Can't we a

I'm currently reading SICP (the original one). Even though it's LISP instead of Python, the syllabus seems to be very implementation-agnostic. Tail recursion optimization is nice and comes in handy, but I don't think it matters much in the

A little off topic, but reading from week one include a Unix/Emacs tutorial. I wish they would stop defining "cat" as a command to "displays the content of specified files". This trend in the "Unix teaching" community is leading to a lot of

Why not make the logging in process easier? I don't want to register to your website, but I wouldn't mind authenticating with my Google open-id.

Are there ways to measure how much of the traffic is actually due to reddit being out. I bet there are other reasons for the growth in traffic, like the fact that HN has been making a great job at covering SOPA/PIPA for the past few weeks,

I'm confused. According to the Wikipedia article on Java, the source code is released under GPL. Isn't this enough for Canonical to host and distribute the binaries?

Let's define what root access means. It's not a fancy "feature" that only "advanced" users will know how to use. You don't really "own" a device unless you have root access. The way I see it, "non-root" users are the feature preventing harm

I apologize in advance if what I'm about to say may sound harsh, mean or elitist, but the truth is programming isn't for everyone. While the intent of the article is very noble ("improving the usability of Codecademy"), it also raises very

I'm one of the young foolish programmers mentioned in the article. While I don't think every problem can be brute forced with code, I do feel that the only problems worth working on are those solved with code. Code can be a end itself, and

When you hear Linus speak about his workflow when working on the kernel, he always mentions his "Web of Trust" concept. I think the problem is not inherent to github, but rather to the idea we have when we foolishly think of the possibiliti

I don't know LISP well enough to ponder how portable all the existing elisp code base would be portable to CL. Imho this could be the deciding factor between a permanent shift for emacs or a mere fork.

Why is HN helping David out by giving him exposure? Is it because we feel that he truly deserves a shot? or is because we want to believe that non-intrusive self-promotion should be gratified? I'm giving him an upvote on account of a little

More important than the software suite they use, I wish they would impose the use of open formats. After that, they (and generations of people to come) can use which ever reader software they like.

And I'm still convinced that there is a market for 10-15$ games. It's just that today's customer won't pay that much for the cute 2d physics game, or the classic reproduction of Super Mario in Flash. I believe there's a range in between the
