Reminds me of the Kentucky Fried Movie. During a 'commercial break' in the movie, a news caster chimes in with the headlines: "Moscow in flames, missiles headed to New York, film at eleven"

Our local Borders was in a leased building (it's closed now). I'd be surprised if they owned any of the stores.

I look forward to finding out the truth behind this. I'm sure it will come out eventually, though we might have to wait 25 years. Long bet anyone? I'll put my money on the NSA.

This was done, by no less than Thomas Jefferson: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jefferson_Bible resulting in a 46 page bible.

You mentioned rental properties (mortgage docs?), tax papers, both of which likely have SSN's, maybe you have credit card numbers and bank acct numbers in these pdfs. I'd think you'd want this stuff encrypted. Thanks for a great post thoug

I'd chalk it up to a bland title in the other, which I bypassed several times even after reading your comment. Here's the link: https://joindiaspora.com/ I appreciate the commentary in techcrunch on their release. For example: Interestin

And it's not "sticky silicone that's part Silly Putty, part duct tape". Robot f'n cars people! Ok, maybe it doesn't qualify for 2010, but in terms of quality of life impact, beats silly putty hands down.

Very cool. I had to compare it with the Airbus A380-800: 1,300,000 lbs max takeoff weight, using 85472 us gal max fuel capacity, and 6400 mi max range = 395 ft/gal or 513.5e6 ft-lbs/gal

PG uses a mac book air: http://paul.graham.usesthis.com/ maybe we can infer that Lisp (or Arc) works well on it.

Put this somewhere if you ever have a kid: The Baby Whisperer by Tracy Hogg. I've just finished applying what I learned, and believe me, you never knew how much you need sleep until you go without it for a few months. It's a great book.

You'd probably enjoy iWoz: Computer Geek to Cult Icon, if you haven't read it. Great stories of his childhood and totally inspirational. He makes you want to build things.

Haven't read his calculus book, but Strang's linear algebra book is the best math book I've ever read. It's actually readable! Certain chapters are available on line. Based on it I would definitely try his Calculus book if I needed one.

Totally agree. I did some of my earliest engineering work at 10 yrs old with Legos. Now I use code, but it's still very much about how things go together.

Maybe 'half life' is a better way to put it. Looking at the graphs, the score drops to ~1 in 5-10 hrs, unless the points are very high.

I agree with the theme in a lot of these comments: It's a good idea if you have a plan of attack. I've had lots of ideas (eg battery powered heated wetsuit! damn, it's been done) and am now working on one where I have the unique combination

I hear this enough to wonder if it's a myth. Mac OS is built on Unix, so how does the total Unix+Linux+Mac market share look? Probably big enough to justify attacking. I suspect but can't prove that Unix is inherently more secure than Windo

I'm more researcher than startup-type, but to me they are both about getting the 'preparation meets luck' kind of ideas where you feel like you've got a leg up on the rest of the pack. When that happens, it's all you want to think about - i

I think this is why meditation can be so beneficial. With practice, you can take control of the thoughts going through your mind, eventually becoming quite good at it. Later on, say at work (or in the shower), you can then make the top thin

I worked at a nuclear plant during a college internship and can vouch for the strange attitude toward radiation exposure. There were guys who would work outages every year, receive their annual rad dose in a few months, and make enough mone
