This is already a solved problem in every major browser. They will show mixed script domains as punycode instead of their unicode equivalent[1][2]. ICANN does not even allow all unicode characters[3]. There's so much FUD going around

You can always disable auto-focus on the client side if you don't like it. I have 'focuscontent' set in Vimperator which will "Focus the content after a page has loaded. [...] When on, it blurs any textbox which often is automatically focus

I've been on HN for years and read it daily, but I comment very rarely. I can't answer your question but I suspect there are a lot of others like us. Perhaps some traffic stats would shed light on the number of lurkers vs contributors.

Simply sending "AB; command \n" to the IRC server will execute command on the server. Does nobody check checksums anymore? Taking six months to detect this is ridiculous.

I would remove extensions from domains, e.g., "news.ycombinator.com" would just be "news.ycombinator", and "google.com" would just be "google".
