This is exactly why I agree that this whole mess is a load of crap. Net neutrality should be a given. If I'm paying for a service, then it should be up to me how I use it, and the entity that I am paying should not have the right to ar

If the homeowner owns the last mile, then they become responsible for maintenance, ensuring they comply with FCC and other regulations, and negotiating terms of interconnection. Obviously, that's out of reach of most of the population,

Replace all of the brewing talk in the description of cleaning, tedium, and notetaking with chemistry, and then you will understand why I became a developer after spending 4 years studying chemistry.

This is amazing! It's like ReSharper for SSMS. Just forwarded it to our entire dev group.

Echoing the other comments here: just find something new. There are plenty of jobs out there. Dig up the last HN "Who's Hiring" and start there.

While I think that the Baby Einstein videos and toys are great (my daughter loves the both), I wouldn't say these are specifically programmer oriented.

I bought some of these books for my daughter who is 8 months. Obviously she's not going to crank out the next big startup by the time she's 3 with these, but I hoped that they would expose her to what her father does for a living

This made my morning. I shared it with some older, non-gamer coworkers, and they just didn't get it. Oh, well. I'm going to spaaaccccce!

While I enjoyed and partly agreed with Uncle Bob's equivalent of "Get off my lawn", it would be excellent if he also proposed something that resembled a solution to the problem. I struggled at my first dev job because school

I thought this was going to be another Apple = Big Brother piece too. Having read too many articles like that lately, I was surprised at the ending. The post title on here feels kind of ominous...

It tells me that my daughter's name, Avery, is male, yet it is the 13th most popular name for baby girls right now. Someone needs an updated data set.

I had a very similar experience in undergrad. I skipped all sorts of classes and got great grades. I didn't care. I put off studying weeks of material until days before the exam. I'd even have a beer or 2 before exams. It wasn

I had a class where we built a DB engine from scratch, and I ported my code to C# just for LINQ and proper list handling. While it's not the most efficient, it reduced many of the complex sections down to a few lines, like reordering t

I take 1.5g of piracetam in the morning with a choline supplement. When I remember to, I take another 750mg around lunch to keep blood levels up. The half life of piracetam is reported to be around 4 hrs. It is one of those things that you

I would have loved to have a class like this in my program. It's basically a summary of all the things I've learned in my side projects and first year of my career. I hope this is mandatory for all of their students.
