Yea sounds like it, I took the standard math track at my college and never had any problem with my upper level physics courses but most of my fellow students constantly complained their lack of math understanding was severely hurting their

Thanks! I use this library for Q-Digest, it's worth taking a look at for an implementation reference. https://github.com/clearspring/stream-lib

I think the service aspect of *aaS businesses is literally half the game. Yes, you are delivering a product but the service aspect involves the monumental task of maintaining servers, maximizing uptime, being sensitive to security and anyth

This is a really awesome problem! I tackled this for my work at TempoDB and ended up going with the Q-Digest algorithm although I took a good look at CKMS. Really cool to see this implements merging streams, I remember reading that CKMS was

Really? It looks like a portfolio with a greater than 1 beta. It's net net return over the period is about the same as the rest of the market. Also 5 speakers a year is not enough events to be statistically significant. 2/10 would not inves

I can confirm this. I have used Angellist successfully. Both talking to several startups as well as getting hired.

I have always been fascinated with cellular automata. I think they serve a really good purpose in being a "fun" way to approach complexity and it's consequences and I spent more than a few hours playing with game of life programs especially

I was thinking this too. Who spends this many hours with cellular automata to not only classify structures but engineer with them... Is it Mathematicians ? Why ?

Is this article not insight porn itself? Also I can never get through anything with such broad generalizing statements.

I totally agree with this, Facebook solved purely a social problem and this makes them subject to being at an existential risk of no longer being socially relevant ("cool"). Unlike say, Google, who started their massive empire by solving a

So judging from the the screenshots... Buy Apple? Yea that would of totally worked. Now for any other stocks, probably not. Also you can see it's less than the simple buy and hold. Seriously I don't know why people even try trading in their

Yes. The fund I work for has a very successful track record and we take all PCA (on factors) with a huge grain of salt. Also any strategy that has more than a 20% thesis alignment on PCA (on factors!) is most likely laughed at.

First off, This is Mark Cuban, who is in my top 3 list of intelligent public figures and influential enough to me that I definitely feel the need to defend him a bit here. I think what he meant by "job skill" classes is more along the lines

Thank you, This is how I felt too. I mean, cute story and all, but this sort of backwardation of technology and culture always makes me feel a little unnerved in a North Korea kind of way. But hey, different parenting philosophies, I guess.

"Hang out my shingle and start my own accounting firm." Yes, a unemployable just-graduated accounting major with no CPA designation and no network can just start his own accounting firm. Stop whining, it's SO easy!(?)
