But if the final result is of high enough quality, who cares about reasoning? It’s a trick to get the quality higher, at the cost of tokens and latency.

“ADAS self-driving technology” ADAS is fairly common. It was in my VW and BMW, and I’m certain many other cars have it too.

Not to mention latency

Yes that’s a pretty giant accusation, especially given they’re buying boatloads of GPUs and have previous versions as well (it’s not like they’re starting with 3).

This was one of my favorite books growing up, something it seemed only I have read. I’ve never seen it talked about since. Might be fun to reread it now and see how it’s aged now that I’m on the other side.

It’s all relevant, but there is zero doubt that the US has the best higher education in the world (although this administration seems hell bent on attacking it). There’s a reason more international students come to the US than anywhere else

“late stage open source capitalism” Considering the GNU manifesto is from 1985 I guess we’ve gone through multiple stages quickly. What were they?

Did Apple claim it’s the best phone yet? They’d probably only reserve that for the Pro.

I wish deepseek distills were somehow branded differently. The amount of confusion I’ve come across from otherwise technical folk, or simply mislabeling (I’m running r1 on my MacBook!) is shocking. It’s my new pet peeve.

The net benefit to society compared to the energy, money, and time put into everything blockchain related has yet to be positive. If your biggest example is facilitating illicit commerce (which you spin as permission-less money), well that’

Amazon spreads the cost across everyone (who is prime). The biggest users pay the least for shipping.

What’s the alternative? Everyone else has you pay for shipping, and it’s slower.

Outperform in what way? Reasoning models may be able to solve problems correctly a bigger percentage of time, but they burn many tokens to get there. So they’re much less efficient, both in latency and ultimately environmental cost.

Thank you, this is helpful framing. Obviously all the details are missing, but the blog post was impenetrable for me, and I’m quite technical.

I really like this concept. Except I don’t know where / how to integrate it. My kitchen is already built with a fridge integrated into cabinets. There’s no place to put the battery. And even if there were, it would be a $1k machine ded
