Hmm... I was seriously ready to scoff at this when I saw a link to att.com in a show hn, but I'm not so sure this is scoff-worthy... It's (basically) $25 per GB across a fleet + $1 per device per month. While that sounds bad for a

Yeah, this whole thread is a pretty good summary of why specifying a diet is so hard. There's no way to get any definitive answers. People try to do good, hard studies on this, but they're almost impossible to control/fund. B

Not sure where you got the 90-95% fat, but I've never seen anyone suggest that you should be eating anywhere near that much from fat. If you were actually trying to get that high I can understand why you'd feel like it's a &q

Does anyone know if it's possible to write a Firefox add-on that could warn you that the site you're connecting to uses one of these less trustworthy or esoteric CAs? I've looked through the APIs, but I don't see any hoo

Heh, I guess I shouldn't have believed the unbelievable price after all. Still, $3 for a chip that does 'everything' isn't bad. From what I've seen everyone else wants 3x-10x more than that for chips (or, admittedly

Seems like these chips are unbelievably cheap too. The shop link[0] seems to say that the bare chips are $0.19 (USD)[1] even in small quantities. [0] https://world.taobao.com/item/537912657387.htm [1] https:/

Could it be that those other people are sharing that info to facebook? They only need one side to allow sharing contacts to find the connection.

Yeah, but if a rack-mount server was cheaper, easier to use, about the same size, and used a reasonable amount of power compared to an Arduino, I'd probably use a rack-mount server for all my DIY projects.

True, however that's AVRs and not Adruino. You very quickly get out of arduino-land when you have any constraints like battery life or performance. By far the vast majority of people contemplating either Arduino or RPi will never know

Yeah, but if the farm tractor was cheaper, faster, and could carry more cargo than the truck, why wouldn't you just use the tractor?

I think people are getting hung up on verbiage here. Yes, I realize they are not completely identical. But, the original comment was taking about the price difference between the arduino and an RPi. Sure the RPi is 'overkill' for

Yeah, but you're still talking about the raw technical implementation of how they work. All I'm trying to say is that for the vast majority of users a raspberry pi can do anything that an arduino can. Sure you might not be able to

Sure they are. I mean, sure, you and I know the difference between an 8-bit micro with some friendly libraries and a 64-bit ARM SOC running a full OS. But for a lot of stuff they accomplish the exact same thing. So why not compare them by w

What measure do you use to determine that AWS and Azure are the leading IoT providers? (Genuinely curious.) I know that they're large infrastructure players who are doing IoT, but are they also leaders in the IoT space?

And what a disaster for security that is. 95% of the IoT crap that's being made today will never get an update. When you have something as complicated as a linux box the only thing that can mean is in ~5 years we'll have botnets t

I'm curious why you say that. I'm unashamedly a fan of CoAP and have bashed on MQTT in the past. But isn't that the one thing that MQTT is good at? It is a pubsub protocol after all.
