couple of problems with this: (1) RPUSH can fail (2) LPOP's result might never reach your client after redis has executed it.

rabbitmq used to be one of the hardest things to self-host (even at relatively small scale). But it has been pretty stable since moving to Cloudamqp as a managed solution.

They might have implemented a metadata store 1 layer before S3 to guarantee read after write consistency since write to a new object is consistent in S3. Only updates are eventually consistent.

Great that it's here. I tried Nim around 8-9 months ago, and left it because I didn't want to work with a language that wasn't stable yet. Guess I'll give it a visit again.

did you mean hosting a DIY mail server? that's one of the tougher setups I've done, and the result was mail going to spam folder because I couldn't get DKIM right. OP is definitely better off using a service.

I think you might be able to fit your needs in free tier of mailchimp/sendgrid itself. If not, AWS SES is the most cost effective way.

zfs used to have a better compression algorithm (lz4) before btrfs landed zstd with kernel version 4.15. Btrfs still doesn't have stable support for RAID 5+6 https://btrfs.wiki.kernel.org/index.php/RAID56
