Each report costs money. People don't want to pay extra for the same data.

Many reasons. In finance, PDF reports are passed between companies instead of JSON/XML, etc.. because: 1. PDF is considered tempered proof. Obviously, not true, but legal is ok with that. 2. PDF can be reviewed quickly by non-technical

I'm out of defense for more than 2 decades now. Back then, MSCE, Java and Oracle were the rage. Just look up some job descriptions. They love the soft stuff like scrum master, agile, etc.. They need that check boxes for contracts.

Legal is a stupid question. Even if it’s illegal, are you willing to bring it to court in any shape or form? The answer is no unless you want to be a martyr. Take it to HR and you’ll be on PIP in a few months or on the layoff list.

Besides getting myself into good shape. I would get a whole bunch of certifications that are related to your industry. HN doesn't like certifications, but boy, defense industry loves that stuff.

Same here. I actually used one of the >$1k expresso machines for awhile, it wasn't for me. I enjoy holding a cup of hot coffee reading the news in the morning. Expresso doesn't cut it for me.

I unfortunately have been in this multiple times in my career. My experience, everyone just grind it out for a few months of less productivity and eventually we'll ship something. Life goes on. All the suggestions for documentation, bu

Do you actually have to log every 15 minutes during work or you can log the time at the end of the day that accounts for every 15 minutes? I used to have a script that basically just fill out timesheets.

Take the 5 to GC and transfer for the shuttle to TS. Fastest way on rail is by going in a straight lines. Anytime the train has to turn, it slows down to a crawl. I'm 100% for transit projects, I just don't see a lot of folks in t

I used to work with Sybase, and its JDBC driver was pure madness. There were times where the same query on same data would return different results. Never figured out why. We ended use its ODBC driver for reporting instead.

I don't know about speeding up the folks in the Bronx. 4/5/6 are doing much better since Q went into service. Those folks also now have to pay for two types of transportations, MNR ticket and Subway ticket. Commuters from CT

If you live in the east part the Bronx, wouldn't you just take the 4/5/6? I don't see the value of paying Metro North rides, then subway rides. And even if you decide to take the Metro North, it's going thru Queens,

We used mostly raw SQL. Django ORM is good for CRUD app, but anything analytic style app, it's more painful than it should be. I'm not blaming Django, just we picked the framework for CRUD work and had to retrofitted to do analyti

I never said it's "lite". I can say for certain that in my experience, when writes start to go up, such as stock market event stream coming in, sqlite3 doesn't perform as well as postgres, and scaling writes is hard in s

sqlite3 is a single core application, so even if you have multiple cores on a box, sqlite3 isn't going to take advantage of that. If you want sqlite3 to go faster, you need better single core box. That being said, I do believe sqlite3

I suspect that too. If I learn Blender to replace Fusion/SketchUp, I can do other stuff with Blender. But I'm sticking to basic home DIY. I might just spend some time on Fusion.

There is a free version? Link? I want a low learning curve application for home DIY stuff. I tried Fusion, just a bit more complex that I would like, I supposed Blender is ever more so.

AFAIK, sqlite3 doesn't support multi-core, so you can only do vertical scaling. In cloud, people rather do horizontal scaling. That being said, I ran a django based webapp for internal users and we saw core being pegged by sqlite3 when

Fusion360 has a big learning curve for me. As a once a year hobbyist, not sure if it's worth the investment to learn. I think you are right that blender is probably worse than Fusion for basic carpentry planning, etc..
