> For R$10,00 (roughly $20,00 USD by the time) I believe you meant roughly R$5,00. By 1998, the exchange rate was R$2,00 for each dollar.

Well, his comment isn't that all the stories, or even or that Snow White specifically, were 40-50 years old. There are examples that better fit his argument, and they are not hard to find(I used wikipedia): Pinocchio, released on 1940,

I didn't see they celebrating the atom or the technology. The names, the symbols and the phrase all symbolize the bombardment itself. Of civilians, no less. Not that clear of a distinction.

Washington is fairly far from NY, but I wonder how these people commenting on how it is not distasteful would feel with a 9/11 mascot for a school team. Specially with bad puns about planes hitting buildings and some light-hearted repr

There's a grey area, but I find your example (or the way you posed it) a bad one. Creating a mental model is science, even if it was done to be applied in a engineering context. First, even the math and science behind the structural ha

Very interesting indeed. Is there any portfolio, even for fake brands, so I can see the range of styles their logos may have?

Not actually. John Deer doest not build vehicles, he builds machinery. John Deer machines work in a strict set of environments, and although they may be very sophisticated and react to a range of adverse situations, these situations are sti

I actually thought of using CRC32 when developing my first system, but I preferred MD5 because it would be easier and clearer for people to check file integrity in a *NIX command line.

I'm no security expert, but I have a question. In some systems I've built in the past I employ MD5 as a hashing mechanism to verify firmware integrity after flashing it in the memory. I don't use MD5 for anything security rel

As the page is content-addressed, it can only change the content by changing the address, thus creating a whole new webpage - address and content, after all, define the resource.

Sorry, but why do you believe WhatsApp is overvalued? They have an incredible mindshare, it is the only app (besides Facebook), that I see moms and grandmas using on a daily basis. Heck, my mom talk to me mostly through it. She evens send m

At first, I read the deadline as $4,48, mistaking the B for an 8. That I didn't got think twice to interpret this way reveals how far down AOL went, at least in my opinion of it.

Interesting. Is there any reference, or tutorial, for a fellow FPGA developer who are interested in studying OpenCL for FPGA? Also, is there a link for your thesis? What kind of data processing was needed? I mostly work with signal processi

You can't have a political discussion about subroutines memory leak because this is not about politics. But surely people get irrational about technical topics, from programming languages to the last gadget. I see these discussions all

Too bad you stopped reading. Just after this paragraph: > Some clustering of logically unrelated beliefs could be explained cognitively—for instance, by the hypothesis that some people tend to be good, in general, at getting to the truth

Did you read the article? There is whole section (3) on why simply having different preferences does not explain irrationality in politics.

Well, good development boards are cheaper nowadays, Vivado is slightly better than ISE, but pro tools are still very expensive and, of course, terrible. Actually, most discussions here in HN are about how bad FPGA tools are.

One thing this article touches, but does not give enough attention to (maybe because it is so counter-intuitive and hard to explain) is the false positive paradox. To put in perspective, you should only do a test if you have good a priori c
