FWIW this is from the perspective of and American consumer (I assume, from your comment below where you mention AT&T). Most WhatsApp users aren't American, and in a lot of places $1 is a more significant price tag. That aside thoug

One has to consider history though. European top researchers crossed the Atlantic due to the war and later because it was more stable than Iron-curtained Europe, but now that a lot of factors have settled there’s probably less brain-drain i

I mean, I think people are somewhat missing the fact that it's not like these worlds are separate or competing. Some people have worked on both PHP and HHVM, and it seems like they've always acknowledged that they have different g

Adding more servers stops being a good option after a certain point. If you're a small company running on 20 servers you can increase your performance by 5% if you add just one more. Install it in one day, boom. If you're running

Well, the compiler was its own thing and had very different goals. I'm sure that wouldn't have flown for most use-cases and from what I've read it was used only for running production code because compilation took a while. HH

Considering that the gap also means increasing disdain against the rich, I'm not that surprised. Not saying it's all just PR and getting on the good side of the mob, but it's still true that before being revered for his phila

But considering the gap, it could be better. This is like the tax-cuts-- "Oh, you should be happy you're getting a few hundred dollars back!". Well yeah, but if the cuts had been made fairly across income brackets, I'd b

This. An incredibly rich top 0.1% percent could skew GDP per capita a lot, but a happiness index not so much. Simplifying things to the extreme, take 100 people where half of them earn $1 and are unhappy and half $2 and are happy. Give one
