I get what the author is saying but isn’t that why we have problem solving, test coverage and documentation?

My thoughts were this. The moment it is public it’s probably in the training data set. The real evals are the ones that you have to make an a problem you’re trying to solve and the data you are using.

It’s really hard to adjust for economic factors here. I am in agreement with skepticism in this thread as job numbers got revised downward heavily in both 2024 and 2025 (too negatives in some months) indicating a poor economic situation.

AI Engineer. Lots of candidates that want to be one but not many with actual experience, is the problem I’ve heard.

Seems like the author is a bit frustrated from unrealistic expectations. Hits home as we’ve not filled a role for over six months.

Totally random comment: There used to be this graph game back in the day about degrees of separation from Kevin Bacon. Seeing Albus Dumbledore 3 nodes away from poker reminded me of that. You can link a graph to all kinds of things.

It’s under appreciated how many of us fall for over engineering. I’ve been there. Just the other day I had coworker suggest that our startup not use cloud blob storage because it’s unreliable and we should build our own. Maybe it’s just har

The trouble I have with pedantic is that everything is immutable. There are use cases where I need mutability and it’s not bad but a trade off.

Sad but not surprising it was due to Cardiac problems. He was famously using steroids and then there was the 1980s.

This probably a stupid question but do solar and batteries depend on rare earth metals and their supply?

I agree. It’s a lot faster to tell it what I want and work on something else in the meantime. You end up ready code diffs more than writing code but it saves time.

Didn’t they at one point fail to account for Trillions of dollars in their budget? How do you do that? The scale for me is unimaginable.

Suggest to get rid of drag and drop for multi choice or something else. Tried doing on mobile and it’s a bit difficult.

I feel you. I am 43 and have two kids and already have a masters but not in CS. I want to go back because even though I am working in industry for quite some time, their a foundational gaps I have since I learned things on the fly. Very lit

The blog confused me. The author opens with senior leaders but does not distinguish between ic and managers. That is a very important difference and the way they are written is somewhat interchangeable at the start but I don’t think that’s

Before you do that would suggest you check out Boox. I am very surprised to scroll this thread and see Kobo call outs but not Boox. No need to jailbreak as highly customizable.

I’ve come to this same conclusion. Been able to code up something that would’ve taken me a week to do back in the day with Claude in 2 hours. I’ve given canvas csvs and seen it run analysis on them in minutes that would’ve take me day to do

I am turning 43 and trying to figure things out as well. I am at the point in my life where the most important thing to me is not work. I just want a balanced 9 to 5 without toxicity or high demands. Is such a thing possible in this industr

Came here to say this and glad I am not the only one. Building out an ontology seems like quite an expensive process. It would be hard to convince my stakeholders to do this.
