FWIW I think it was an absolute edge case bordering on silliness. if there is a crappy silly caching proxy, an attacker can use websocket to get it to cache things it shouldn't. I think the fact Chrome hasn't done anything about it, (espe

tl;dr; Advert for his new 'self help' book. An advert for Sarah Palins book would be more relevant to HN IMHO.

Ah true, I'd forgotten about the firefox and opera hoo-haw. Hopefully they sort that out ASAP It's a great shame really.

Yeah it's convenient to not mention the massive successes like Chrome and Android...

I'm not sure if you'd really call it 'in flux'. We've been using websocket for over a year now on Mibbit. I think around 20% of our users currently do websocket. Fair enough to wait and see though, hopefully they'll do it the same way every

Why don't they just implement the accepted WebSocket standard instead of their own competing API?

true, but there's always other options - having a fulltime job and running it as a sideline, doing contract/consulting work... Or just running toward 'profitable' earlier on.

FWIW, I doubt it costs too much at all to run. All credit to him, he seems to put in a ton of effort, but this game isn't only for the rich. Any school kid can start something similar and run it 'unprofitably' for 3 years. 3 years hosting c

Definitely. I understand the business reason they want to encroach past what people actually want. When I attended Google I/O last year we got given a free HTC EVO. Fantastic hardware, but the thing was so laden in Sprint crap I felt dirty

It shouldn't be anything to do with the carrier. The carrier should be a pipe. Why is the carrier market in the US so terrible compared to other places? I guess same reason that internet access itself is so bad in the US. The market needs a

Sonys problem is that they make the most expensive games console hardware, but make a loss selling it. If I were them I'd fix that first. And get rid of the ridiculous and outdated blu-ray crap. Spinny disc things? In this day and age?

Question 14 is quite telling - 66%+ are using Windows :/ I'd think that the % here would be significantly less.

Fair point, there's a market for adult animated movies. But I think it's small. The scene in Up! which showed the old couples life story was well done, but I doubt any child would really remember it or rate it. It was for sentimental adults

I liked Cars. I absolutely hated Up! and Wall-e with a passion. Cars is obviously a reasonably simple storyline, but it's a good movie with good characters. Kids like cars shrug it's a movie about toy cars... what's not to like? Better th

I really worried they'd lost the plot after Wall-e and Up! (The 2 worst releases imho). So Toy Story 3 was great to see. Story outlines usually sound rubbish IMHO. So I'll give cars 2 the benefit of the doubt. Glad there's a new movie with

FWIW, I think parents/friends give blind support and encouragment. HN/peers/tech community should give complete honesty. If that means saying "That idea is terrible" so be it.

People don't have to get credit cards. They don't have to buy stuff they can't afford. People should be taught self restraint and living within their means in schools. Personally I wouldn't blame credit card companies one bit. They are taki

Is there any evidence they've "got used to it"? People got used to paying for ringtones, and then the market pretty much disappeared. Part of me thinks the app store model is a short term fad.

Why? Do you think that success should also be uniformly distributed amongst the entire population? I'd say reward people who are successful. The fact is the majority of people aren't successful or really very useful to society. The top 1% o

FWIW Linode has 5 datacenters, and at least 5 address ranges, so there may be more undercounting going on for them.
