This isn't Scala. In python list comprehensions are single threaded and have a very specific meaning (i.e., their computation order is deterministic). The pattern for working with parallel maps etc are done with separate map functions (see

Since ?= looks so familiar, any chance of an elvis or defined-or operator in coffeescript? if a? then a else 0 becomes either a ?: 0 (if you like groovy) or a // 0 (if you like perl)

I guess the question is whether or not you're using a powerful window manager or not. Most window managers in linux support easy always-on-top and layers, so the multi-window UI really shines.

Of course, you're using a package from CPAN. This article mentioned envoy from pypi but refutes it as being "not part of the standard library". The two good solutions he mentions (communicate and envoy) he dismisses for what seem silly or n

In flask, the app.route decorator mutates the app object. There are no globals necessary. Use of globals to maintain state is an orthogonal issue to use of decorators to update registries.

The decorator can do anything. In flask the decorator syntax is just shorthand for adding the route to a registry which is looked up every request. The source code is pitifully small: https://bitbucket.org/mitsuhiko/flask/src/4d82231621fc/

I believe perl fixed this issue years ago (and this recent wave of discovery was based on a paper which was sent to perl maintainers long ago). Ruby fixed this issue in 1.9 before it was a big deal. I am not aware if Ruby 1.8 has backported

You can also use a real distributed queue or zeromq. The problem is that it's easy to do all of the websocket notification in on process, and a lot of examples people follow (e.g. node.js) seem to assume there's one process to manage everyt

My understanding is that go still provides a lot of tools to indicate when you want memory allocated and where the memory will go (which can optionally be left out). If these were used, wouldn't that make it easier for the go gc to perform

Huh? As long as you have XHR and JS, you can do file upload progress bars. Gmail has been doing it for years, and I've certainly had implementations going back to 2007. Now, if the upload is failed for whatever reason (i.e. the file is reje

When studying vocab, some words stick out as words you'll never see, and because of that you may fixate on that single word. For me it's eleemosynary. Still haven't seen it used. Once.

You can always fp.seek(0) and iterate again. Iteration and file openness are separate concepts, and any API worth its salt (e.g. the python file api) keeps it that way.
