Inexperience. lib/ quickly turns into a dumping ground unless you are careful to keep it clear of business logic.

I perfectly well understand how threading works. Read the rest of the comment that you cherry picked that quote from, it's about being upset at how npm doesn't seem to be taking it's responsibility seriously. If you had some

That's ... still a dangerous way to accomplish the update. You're disabling a key safeguard that ensures you're actually talking to official npm servers, then re-enabling the safeguard after running the code that whoever-you-

You want to talk loaded comments? You're reducing "I'm glad to move away from a project that breaks functionality for all users with no notice" to a quibble over an SSL certificate change. That npm as a project thought t

If running "npm config get ca" on my not-yet-updated copy of npm is any indication, they were using the self signed certificate.

Where are you seeing any discrepancies from camelCase? The only thing I see is that types and constructors (i.e. Functor/Applicative/F) start with capital letters. Also, to be frank, many languages give a false sense of knowledge

His article was talking about abandoning a large product to do a ground-up rewrite without clear improvement goals beyond "make it easier to understand/work on". Servo meets basically none of those criteria.

Aren't the errors generated by nonconforming types a way to trace through the app? That's the point of a strong type system: code that by definition won't work isn't allowed to run.

Ugh, I really wish this overly simplistic view of the relationship would die. It only feels clever because it appeals to the big-companies-screw-everybody sentiment.

All of the police I know are in favor of this. They want cameras on at all times that they ideally couldn't interfere with. Not only will those cameras protect the public from police misbehavior, it will protect officers from frivolous

"Don't leave your house, ever!" and "Don't try to stop and help anyone with anything" would also have prevented this. That doesn't make either of them good advice.

How do you expect Go to be faster than Java? Off the top of my head here's three reasons why I expect Go to be equal or slower in the general case: * the type system doesn't provide any more information to optimize against * lack

That may be true, but there's a long tail to this too. Most of us can't help optimize the Gates Foundation's activities, but all of us doing our own little bit can still be a great force for societal improvement.

You're confusing static typing with explicit typing. This is static typing's version of the "dynamic typing doesn't have to be weak typing" argument. There are a variety of languages that don't impose explicit
