When I think of “blameless” I think of “without fault”: https://www.wordnik.com/words/blameless But when I think of “shared responsibility”, I think of everyone as sharing fault. When something goes wrong, I think some

Instead of a blameless culture, more desirable is a shared responsibility culture. There are always things the engineer all the way up to the CEO could have done prior and could do after to move the company in a positive direction.

A few things emerged after WWII that probably helped keep the peace: * democracy * capitalism * US military presence * common European allies * a shared dislike of communism * a need to focus internally to rebuild destroyed infrastructure

Detecting life would still be a small sample size. You’d need to detect life or rule it out on a variety of planet sizes, ages and compositions at a variety of distances around a variety of star types, ages and sizes at varying locations in

Right, but how could colonies over such great distances have any meaningful commonality or purpose? Homo Sapiens evolved ~300k years ago. The Milky Way is ~100k light years across. It’s possible you’d have different species colonizing diffe

Cooperation and symbiotic relationships exist in nature as well. The trajectory of history suggests that it’s easier to trade than to steal and easier to ally than to fight.

Communication is still a problem. A colony 5 light years away means 10 years before you get a response. For all intents and purposes most colonies will be independent and unable to act efficiently in unison with other colonies towards a str

If we look at human history through the lense of a Dark Forest hypothesis and resource scarcity, you’d expect to see a variety of behaviors: aggression, defensive isolation, cooperation, etc. And as on Earth, in Space, distance may help kee

There’s so much empty space, a random shotgun blast would be unlikely to hit anything. Here’s a video about it: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=OjdE-Q3yDYQ&pp=ygUvdHJhdmVsIGF... For example there is ~4 light years of empt

The only thing akin to that would be an AI safety concern and the new CEO specifically said that wasn’t the issue. And if it was something concrete, Ilya would likely still be defending the firing, not regretting it. It seems like a simple
