So, if I run a car rental company, and people start stealing cars, is it my job to recover the cars or filter out the criminals? After all, I could write algorithms that used more and more information to determine criminality.

The page contains a full description of the Hyperloop and a link to a PDF with technical details. You're linking to your own HN story, which has fewer comments, and fewer details in the actual story. (Also, why not link directly to the

Agreed, the scientific claims are simply baffling. Science aside, the post comes across as a thinly-veiled attempt to brag about the founder. Press logos up top, followed by 'green buzzwords'. Then, a photo of the founders from th

Did I miss something? Where does RescueTime come into this? And yes, when they launched, people had the same worry about the server. See: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=80182 "I don't really look forward to

Bitinstant isn't any more a scam than Mt. Gox is. They're just both services that are run by folks who weren't expecting to hit the scale they are now, have no experience building financial systems, and are waaaay in over the

Generally we see about a two to four week rollover time between DotA 2 Test and the main DotA 2.

I really don't get how this could be the case. I built something similar to this for my startup; it didn't have a pretty UI we could let our marketing team use, but it also didn't cost nearly $0.10/text - it cost $0.01&#

Serious question—why would I use DuckDuckGo to use StartPage to use Google? If I was really privacy conscious, I could go straight to StartPage. If I didn't really care, I could go straight to Google. Where does DDG fit in?

Interesting. This is why Macs have the webcam light hardware-enabled; if the webcam goes on, the green light goes on. That way, at least you know it's started recording.

I wouldn't look so deep into it. They got one tech blog to pick up the story, not 'press'. If you e-mail the tips@(techcrunch/thenextweb/theverge) e-mail with your startup launch, it's actually pretty easy to get the blogs to syndicate your

I'm a mod of /r/business, and we had an American Express takeover. It was much more than just two block ads. Full banner, etc. Didn't last that long and our users really didn't seem to mind (or notice.)

You only need to get approved if you're going over $10,000 USD monthly. If you were doing that much in BTC trading each month, I doubt you'd use an unreliable platform like Coinbase to start with.

There's a lot of good discussion here: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=5202381 (original LeChat announcement) I'm pleased to see that Qwl has a different stance on XMPP than the 'lechat' user posted in the thread.
