Not necessarily HTTP, but I imagine hitting some sort of database from a lambda is not uncommon.

Is this really a common practice? Why ask users to import the certificate into the root certificate store instead of packaging the self-signed certificate with and specially loading it from the application. That seems easier from the users

What does the complexity matter? Either way you're running some service description file through some build tooling to generate some human unfriendly code. Who cares how big or complex the code in the middle is?

In my admittedly anecdotal experience, e-bike riders tend to actually be as safe if not safer on trails and paths. Plenty of traditional bikers are folks who are using bike shares and do things like not wear helmets, ignore road signs, ride

I read your comment earlier and saved it for later. I too find myself unenlightened. Fine it's impossible to correctly calculate externalities. I don't see the line from there to: "BigCo dumped a ton of waste in my pond, but

The library they referenced (Finagle) does pretty much just that. A few things that leapt out at me: - It's hard to figure out what the dependency graph looks like just from promises - That pattern is verbose and results in gross types

I won't claim to know much about this, but the article claims that the graphite works because it emits "short-range radiation", which I'm assuming refers to the carbon-14 emitting beta radiation. Depleted Uranium and th

Without sounding condescending, how old are you? I had my head more "fundamentals of CS" when I was just leaving school and also never failed a technical interview. After spending some time in industry, I don't think about t

Are there any examples of extensible protocols like this in the wild? I'm asking because the only such protocol that seems to get mentioned on HN is XMPP (and always with groans).

LSMs and Btrees are both data structures designed for use with disks, so the tests were probably run with disks.

This implementation uses an underlying, materialized array right? And that was the very thing that the author is trying to avoid.

Personally ,the worst I've ever run into is some hairy classpath issue, as one the children comments mentions. Although maybe I'm just lucky. Where does bytecode manipulation or code generation happen in Dropwizard? Reflection for

That's not a complete comparison though -- sbt only downloads the platform-independent jars and minuscule launcher scripts. It's still on the user to install a JRE globally. An analogue for rust would be something that detects the

My guess is that in the future, source code -> MIR could be cached (on disk) so that whole-program optimization/linking could happen without compiling all of the source to IR.
