In a diesel engine, only fresh air is in the cylinder during the compression cycle. At the top of the compression cycle, that's when the fuel starts to be injected and immediately burns/explodes. There's other reasons why pet

I agree with this, the process of mechanical design very much involves messing around with things visually. I've interned in a place that still used "good old" 2D, non-parametric autocad, and a lot of the "premilinary&qu

As a frequent user of Solidworks for ~4 years, I'd have to guess that CAD constraint solvers are not an easy problem. It happens pretty often that you'll modify a single constraint (flipping it is a common culprit), the solver wil

This is the way I learned to do it in grad school. There a lot of litterature out there and most chances are 97% is irrelevant to what you're interested in. So, a lot of "reading papers" is efficiently figuring out if it is i

Might be just me not being an IT guy, but from that copy I'm not sure how it differs from a traditional file server with cifs/whatever shares like most businesses already have.

Don't thind that's true. My 4 year program was definitely very challenging. It was tough, there was a lot of pressure to achieve Great Things (culture and history of large, successful student projects). There were no suicides. And

It does not have live preview, it uses latex in the backend so you have to compile to view your changes. I have found the interface mostly intuitive myself (ymmv). It has absolutely no problem doing simple documents, quite the opposite actu

Check out LyX! Not affiliated or anything, just great software that for me hits the sweetspot between Writer and hand-coding Latex. It's simple and lightweight yet powerful and easy to learn. http://www.lyx.org/

What? Why? Word and md/html solve quite different problems, the way I see it. Word is very much for paper-oriented documents while md/html are for screen-first. Word is far from my favorite document preparation system [1] (let

I don't know anything about watch-making, but gold is pretty soft and likely easy to machine. Ceramic-based composites, on the other hand... I'd be surprised if this were the case.

I won't dispute the fact that you can distinguish, 160k vs 320k. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, I'm ready to believe people can hear artifacts at 160k even with the best encoders, especially if these people are train
