Why are authors allowing this? Whenever I've been published, I've asked to retain copyright and that has been granted -- I'm not sure it's a grant, though, since it's mine to start with. The usual negotiating starti

Without maths, I don't think there is. QM starts with the Schrödinger equation -- which allows you to find a wave function -- followed by Born's Rule, which is a statistical interpretation of the wave function. There are questions

This is a tenuous link, but your comment reminded me of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WoZ2BgPVtA0 Not exactly repair, more adapting to change. This is also a fabulous use of tech and a wonderful story.

Alain de Botton writes more generally about taking the goods bits from religion in 'Religion for Atheists: A non-believer's guide to the uses of religion'. It's an interesting thought experiment, and de Botton writes eng

Or create a function to handle that case, name it appropriately, and call it. Thus, no comment is required. You can also test the additional method in isolation, if you wish. I appreciate that this type of thing is language dependent.

It's GoG's ethics that I love. They walk the talk. I'm no gamer, but I bought The Witcher on Steam with the aim of playing it in a language I'm learning. Seemed like a solid and fun challenge. But Steam's version of

The best advice I can think of is to build one. There really aren't any general rules. Everyone's needs (and languages/platforms/tools) and experiences are going to be different, which is great to learn from, but isn

There's a possible darker side to this, of course. Today, the following story -- regarding an ex-member of the British Cabinet and a paedophile network -- started gaining a lot of traction in the UK, mainly because there are an increas

This is my preferred method too. But a lot of developers struggle with the discipline of small, discrete, incremental changes, plus the dependence on solid testing skills. It also requires a culture that can support it. No blame, in particu

Another way is to add a file, say init.rb, to a directory and require_relative that. It achieves the same thing, of course.

I've built large projects with Sinatra. I've done the same with Rails, many times. The idea that you can't build something substantial with Sinatra is hogwash. It is not a given that Active Record -- I presume you mean the pa

I believe that users are sufficiently offended by ads to pay to avoid them, but clearly and provably not the price that app.net charged. I believe there's more to it than that, but the price being too high was a major contributor.

This really isn't so. Ad blocking goes back much further. Here's Ad Muncher v4.7 from 2006: http://ad-muncher.en.softonic.com/ We were blocking ads back in the 1900s.
