You seem to be assuming that simply because something is a crime it is therefore morally wrong. I don't think piracy needs justification because copying something is not morally wrong. OTOH, stealing a car (without justificaiton) is morally

No, IRV actually makes the strategic voting problem even worse than our current system. Approval voting seems to have the best mix of desirable traits.

I've been on the hiring side many times and I never look at a resume's education section. I suppose if I were hiring someone fresh out of school that'd count a little more, but experience is much more important than what school they went to

As part of my negotiations for my current job, I negotiated a 4-day (32 hour) work week. I take Fridays off and do my own projects and volunteer work. I've had a couple jobs where I've done 32 or 36 hour weeks in the past as well. But I als

Looking at the examples it's really hard to know if this stuff was copied. How else would you write this sort of stuff? This seems like really simple, straightforward code. A lot of it seems to be about creating a hash based on a well-defin

JS has all sorts of problems, but I don't think being async by default is one of them. It's different , yes, but being async by default can be really useful for some tasks.

I really don't understand where this oft-repeated FUD about Moose having a lot of deps comes from. Take a look at the list of deps on https://metacpan.org/release/Moose I count 18 direct dependencies, 2 of which are core. If you look at t

That might explain high costs for some users (or subsidies, which I believe we have for rural access). It doesn't explain why these costs would be high in urban areas.

I mostly do Perl, but I vastly prefer CoffeeScript to JS. The significant whitespace thing is actually a negative for me with CS, but it eliminates so many JS annoyances that it's worth putting up with.

I think one of the biggest barriers to finding a new job that's better than your current one is lack of telecommuting options. Unless you live in NYC or the Bay Area or a few other big cities it's not like there's dozens of great companies

I've tried this at home. I made chicken noodle soup with it and it worked really well. I sauteed it in olive oil in a pan first, then added it to the broth later. It withstood both form of cooking fairly well. It browned in the pan and abso

I figure for $99 this is a fun experiment. If it sucks, I backed an interesting idea and I'm not out much money. If it doesn't suck, I have a neat new toy to play with. At the very least, it might let me drop my XBox Live Gold subscription,

Are you comparing John Williams to Bach and Beethoven? Williams is a very skilled film composer who's great at borrowing ideas from better composers and reshaping them for film. But his music is very unoriginal on its own.

I'd phrase this differently. Once you implement Mongo in Postgres, what you have isn't a relational database. What you are taking advantage of is the incredibly solid underlying infrastructure of Pg, which provides reliability, scalabilit

As someone who's done a fair bit of hiring, I'm happy to see anything out there at all. At least it gives me some real code to look at. Of course, having contributed to (or better yet, created) a widely-used project is an even bigger plus.

I think this reflects more on you than on SQL. This is fairly trivial to express as a table-level constraint. I've done very similar things in Postgres. I have no idea if you can do this in MySQL, but it's quite crippled.
