I'm running Microsoft's Linux "kernel". WSL1 that is, where they re-implemented everything :)

Well.... I don't think I've ever used Expose. I don't use it now, that's for sure. Win10 has all I need. Alt+tab shows me Windows, not apps. Win+arrow keys will maximize, minimize, etc. Win+alt+arrow keys moves windows b

I've never been more happy with a desktop environment than when I used i3. The sloppy window management in macOS combined with the scarce selection of laptops (of which none are really good in my opinion) has led me to try win10 as my

I find it interesting that I know everything about the SpaceX plans for Mars (supplies mission in 2024, people in 2026), but I had no idea NASA has a mission to the moon in 2024.

I personally prefer windows as well. But I haven't yet been able to find a setup for it where all my unix centric software works. For example, if I want to debug in my IDE, I have to run it under WSL, since the project contains code th

I just started my own, and when I went to the music gear store to pick up a pair of Shure SM7B, they were sold out because everyone is starting a podcast these days... I tried to hide my embarrassment to the salesperson. We do put a lot of

Seems like it. Text is not selectable in the latest version of the flutter web preview, for example. But it's an early tech preview version, so I'll judge it more harshly when it's 1.0 :)

It works fine in Firefox and Safari too in my experience (just a small pet project). Not on EDGE though. But it is a technical preview after all.

Not really. Flutter has its own layout rendering engine, and uses low level APIs in the browser to circumvent the default rendering. This is what allows Flutter to do, say, efficient table views on the web, which is kind of a holy grail of

Flutter/Hummingbird will be writing DOM elements, so it's not just an opaque WebGL texture.

Well, yes and no. They are implementing a rendering engine that supports things the web famously doesn't support, which includes fundamentals like UITableView from iOS. They are doing this by leveraging new APIs to access what browser

I have high hopes for Flutter/Hummingbird in that regard. When their renderer is implemented using web APIs, this is basically what we'll be getting.

I just got a 2 core Macbook Pro 13, because that's the only fast mac you can get today without a touchbar. I'm just not sufficiently pragmatic to spend any money on one of those horrible touch screen keyboards.

I was also curious about that. In other stories I've read, I've heard it referred to as a big ugly box with a touch screen embedded on top of it, which is what I imagined most people worked on. But this just looks like a normal iP

This is a really great idea. I could easily see variants of this happening. For example, companies could fund the students and get to pick first. I can think of at least 5 people I know that has the potential to become competent developers,

Analogies are flawed, by their nature. In this case, we don't have a clear case of X, followed bu backtracking and claims of not really saying X. Instead, we have the same X, that some people interpret as malice and hate speech, and ot

According to Carl Benjamin himself, the comments were meant ironically. He was reacting to a chat stream, which is missing context in that video, and the chat used slurs like this. So Benjamin used the slurs back at them. Having said that,

One answer to this is to have your raw "source" data stored as flat as possible (Datascript, RDF, ...). Then you generate nested structures (you could call these "views") as much as you want from this data. That way, you
